It is a teaching we find in our own sacred scriptures, The Bhagavadgita and The Upanishads. If someone talks ill about you, you remain unaffected as long as you don't take it personally. I hope one must remind himself/herself about this fact continuously so as not to get too carried away by what is being said about him/her.
