Cute Glasses Don't Have to Break the Bank!
For those of us that have poor eyesight and require the use of glasses it can often be a lofty yearly expense. If you don't have vision insurance, you pay for a trip to the doctor for the prescription, a fitting, lenses, frames, etc. Even with insurance, there is still some of that money coming out of pocket, because if your insurance is anything like mine it only covers up to a certain percentage of the frames and/or lenses.
Did you know there were other options? Until a few months ago I had no idea you could or should order glasses online. I've always purchased from brick and mortar stores and spent hundreds of dollars on glasses. This usually results in me waiting years to purchase new ones because I don't want to fork out the money-thus I end up squinting through scratched lenses for far too long. But no more! There are great places online where you can get your glasses for half the cost. Sometimes, even less than half.
When Firmoo offered to send me a pair of lenses to review I jumped at the opportunity, as at the time I was desperately dealing with scratched glasses I'd had for about 3 years. The process was surprisingly easy! I uploaded a photo of me (I took it with my phone spur of the moment, so while it wasn't particularly flattering, it was a good indicator of what the glasses will look like on me!) and was able to use their fantastic system to try the glasses on my photo to see what they would look like. They also provide all the measurements you need to make sure they are going to fit your face properly. They offer comprehensive instructions on how to use it too! When the glasses I chose arrived I was stoked, just look how pretty they are!
It took me a little while to adjust to wearing them. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the design or if it's a flaw in the prescription my optometrist provided, but I've since grown accustomed and only have issues for a few minutes in the morning when I put them on. I love the complex colors and designs that Firmoo offers, there were so many choices to choose from that narrowing it down was really difficult! However I'm extremely happy with my choice, and my roommate immediately complimented me on how they brighten up my face, and the colors go so great with my red hair and outfit choices! Just look!
I can definitely say I will most likely be ordering from Firmoo again! I love them!

iMO Camera Fashion
Many of you know that I recently made the big purchase and received my very own DSLR camera. It's a gorgeous Canon T3i and while I still have A LOT to learn about manual shooting, I am LOVING it. I am loving using it to take pictures for my blog, and to take pictures of those who are important in my life. It's been fantastic.
Up until the last couple of weeks I've just been using the regular Canon strap that came with the camera package I purchased. It was workable, but not great-as it was kind of short and not padded at all. I had been warned that I'd need a padded strap to save my poor neck, and it turns out I was right.
Luckily, the lovely folks at iMO Camera Fashion contacted me for review on one of their camera straps, and I jumped at the opportunity! It was really hard looking at all of their pretty designs and picking out just one, but I finally landed on this gorgeous iMO Stone Camera Strap. Yes, it looks very southwest, but there was something about it that reminded me of growing up in my mother's home with blankets that looked just like this. But it was really hard to choose, even after narrowing it down... My other two top choices were the iMO Night Elephant Strap and the Blue Mountain design. So lovely!
While these straps ship from Hong Kong, it arrived really quickly and I was surprised at how soon I found it waiting for me at my doorstep. The quality was top notch and it feels like it is holding my camera very sturdily so I don't have to worry about my camera falling. Plus it has a nice little cushion that makes it feel comfortable hanging from my neck or shoulder. It's beautiful!
So if you are looking for a new camera strap I'd highly recommend checking out www.imostrap.com and their line of gorgeous and fashionable camera straps. I'm very happy with mine.

Going Away Party Take 1: Photo Post
Many of you know that my best friend and roommate will be moving to Canada next month. I know, I know, he's been talking about it for years but it's actually happening now. He's been accepted to grad school in Alberta, he quit his teaching job, and already obtained his student visa. This is happening. I've already begun the process of switching a lot of the bills over to my name and I'm going to start paying full rent next month, plus I got a loan and I'm buying his car. BIG changes. But I'm super in love with the photo of us.
This past weekend Josh's Mom threw him a going away party this weekend-it was a lot of fun! It was a big BBQ/sleepover and there were a few of us that spent the night and then stayed around for Breakfast the next day. There were also a few who came back for breakfast. I played photographer.

100 Days to Squeeze {Stoli® Hero Drink Recipe}
This post brought to you by STOLI® Vodka. All opinions are 100% mine.
It occurred to me yesterday as I climbed out of bed that the mornings are getting darker. The light from my open window is now pretty minimal at 5AM-whereas just two weeks ago it was bright enough to wake me. It has become. That slow decent into Fall which inevitably leads to Winter... I already find myself missing Summer. As I sit here typing this out I realize that I haven't done much that would count as Summer activities. I've yet to go camping, I haven't been swimming once, and aside from sitting in front of the swamp cooler my Summer has been pretty Summer-less. So right at this moment, I'm vowing to make more out of my Summer.
What does that mean? Well I have to find time for some hiking, some swimming, and I'm going camping in a few weeks. Also, enjoying more Summery things like salads and lovely Summer beverages. When I think Summer drinks, I definitely think lemonade-but as an adult, I want an adult lemonade. Especially for my camping trip, I think I'll give the Stoli® Hero Drink a try!
Stoli® Hero Drink Recipe:
- 2 parts Stolichnaya® Vodka
- 4 parts lemonade
- Lemons
Fill a mason jar with ice and pour the vodka and lemonade over it, then garnish the rim with a lemon wedge for extra Summery fun! Now drink up! You enjoy how the smooth grain taste of Stoli® Premium Vodka pairs perfectly with the tart sweetness of your favorite Summertime lemonade. For an added flavor twist, switch out the regular Vodka for a flavored one! I'm thinking that an adult Raspberry or Peach lemonade would be heaven on a hot day!
For those of you lucky enough to be located around the country (a.k.a. not Utah lol) you can also check out the Stoli® Lemonade Truck! They'll be travelling around with samples of Stoli® Lemonade cocktails, refreshing flavored lemonade ice pops, and daring customers to take part of fun challenges in order to win prizes and fun Stoli® Event Swag!
Along with the truck they'll be celebrating the Stoli® 100 Days to Squeeze and will be hosting over 300 managed bar nights in 12 cities around the country-cities that include Denver, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, New Jersey, New York, and more!
Follow Stoli on Twitter, Instagram, and Join Stoli on Facebook in order to keep up with the Lemonade Truck and other fujn Stoli® events!
What would you put in your Stoli® Lemonade Cocktail to make it unique and fun this Summer?

And I Know Now, I Know You Were Wrong
I've owed you, my readers, this story for quite a long time. It's been one I've kept pretty tight lipped about because there are situations and people that are close to me involved, and it's complicated. As I type these first few sentences I'm still struggling with whether or not to post this on a forum so public as my blog. But this is my space-a space where I'm supposed to speak my mind; this blog has seen me through so many joys and heartaches that stifling it all away seems unfair to this blog, to those of you who are reading, and to myself. Censorship is not a thing I do if I can help it-I'm not going to edit myself out of fear. I want to be real here.
Last week I finally accepted that I had been used. This was a fact those closest to me had been trying to convince me of for a while now. How is it that your friends always know before you do? Yet, ever the optimistic, I spent a lot of time defending the actions of someone who was supposed to be my friend. Friend... That's the word he used after it was all said and done. He had a rough childhood. He has trouble connecting. He's just clueless. He doesn't mean to make me feel like this. I didn't think there was any way he could have malicious intent because he was my friend... I'm finally going to tell you about Frank.

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire {Book Review}
Synopsis According to GoodReads:
INTENSE. DANGEROUS. ADDICTIVE.
Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.
Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

Cleaning Closets: A Personal Journey
Note: This is a post by Liz Becker-so this personal story does not belong to me, but it's a good one!
Like a lot of people, I'm guilty of collecting more stuff than I actually need. I'm not a candidate for Hoarding: Buried Alive or anything, but my space can definitely get a little cluttered with stuff I may have needed once, but have no use for now. It's to the point where what storage space I do have is steadily reaching capacity and, like George Carlin used to joke, I'm going to have to get a bigger house for my stuff... Or start getting rid of things.
Making the Decision
Deciding to get rid of stuff is easy; deciding what to get rid of is another thing entirely. The first thing I needed to do is sort through all of my stuff; but since I have three large closets, it was a lot easier said than done.
The Hall Closet
I decided to start with the large hall closet, where I store all of my holiday decorations, linens, and clothing that is either out of season, or no longer fits. The closet was actually fairly easy. Since I no longer host big holiday gatherings at my place, I could easily donate a lot of the decorations to charity, or give them to family members. I had managed to get down to just the Christmas tree, a wreath, a couple strings of lights, and several ornaments that had sentimental value.
The linens were also easy-I managed to get rid of the bulk of my table cloths and napkins-giving them new homes with my kids, as well as any sheets or towels that were faded, frayed, or otherwise worn.
The clothing was a little more difficult, mainly because there were things that I keep convincing myself that I would wear again, if only I could lose that last fifteen pounds. Once I was willing to accept that they were doing me no good gathering dust, I was able to bag them up and send them to Goodwill.
The hall closet finished, I decided to tackle the next monster: the closet in the spare bedroom.
The Spare Bedroom
The spare bedroom was a little more problematic because that was where I stored all of my fashion accessories, like my belts, scarves, shoes, and designer handbags. These were all items that I'd spent a lot of money on, and which were still in great condition, but I just didn't use them often.
Still, each item had been selected with care, or gifted to me, and they had a certain degree of sentimental, as well as monetary value. I couldn't just ship them off to Goodwill-these items needed special care.
I sorted them into three groups:
- Things I loved, and couldn't get rid of.
- Things I liked, and would like to keep.
- Things I'd bought because they were fashionable, but if I were really honest, I didn't really like them that much.
Once I finished sorting, I returned the stuff I loved to the closet. I decided to re-gift the things I liked to friends and family members who I thought would appreciate them. I also started looking for places to sell designer handbags and other luxury items.
The closet in the spare bedroom done, I moved on to the last project: the closet in my bedroom.
The Bedroom Closet
I thought this closet would be the easiest of all, because it held all of the stuff I was currently using. It turns out that I didn't regularly use nearly as much as I'd thought. For example, I had found several clothing items that I had only worn a few times before hanging them in the back of the closet to be forgotten.
Yet, even though they had been forgotten, I had been reluctant to let them go once I'd remembered them.
Ultimately, I did manage to cull things, and either donate them or send them off to good homes, but it took some time. After all is said and done, I now have a lot more space in my closets, and I even got a little cash from selling some of my handbags.

Life Updates & Confessions
I got my custom illustration from Fat Babe Designs, and isn't it cute? I love the watercolor background!
I confess... I bought an iPad. I've had a hard time justifying the purchase since it's expensive and I already have an iPhone and a laptop. But my laptopt went wonky and had to go into the shop, and I decided-hey! I have a disposable income (because I have no kids!) so why the eff not? I've been loving it-the picture above I drew with a crappy stylus using the Paper by Fifty-Three app. So cool.
I also got a killer deal... I went for the 32GB one which costs $499, but bought it from Target... I ended up paying $498 out of pocket for the iPad and the case (normally $39.99) plus they gave me a $100 Target gift card with purchase. So I really only spent $398. That also included my roommate's employee discount, a 5% discount for signing up for the Red Card, and a 5% discount for letting the employee talk me into buying a case too. BONUS!
I confess... A couple of weekends ago I went up and spent the night at Kristina's. We drove up to Ogden to pick up Courtney from her boyfriend's apartment... Which just so happens to be the same complex as my very first apartment... The apartment I shared with my first boyfriend and then MelanieGrace. A time so rich in memories that standing there in front of that building looking up at the windows I'd see every day brought waves of nostalgia rushing over me. It was pretty surreal.
I confess... I like my godkids... They're pretty much the only kids I go out of my way to spend time with (maybe I'm getting old and enjoying being child-free). And just look at baby Kat's mini gelly shoes. I DIE.
I confess... I've been super tight-lipped about the whole boy/dating thing. I'm just about ready to tell all-but mostly because it was Frank (you may remember me mentioning him briefly last November) that I let back in my life, and he's already out of it again. Of course I still have to deal with him since we have friends in common and other stupid life events that I should have never gotten myself into... But let me just say-he turned out to be nothing like what I thought he was. I'm not even sure "real" nice guys exist-or at least are single anymore. This adorable little piece of art is by a fab artist and motivational source, Emm Roy.
I confess... I'm so lucky to have some fabulous people who support me in my life.
I confess... I've been really bad about the gym the last three weeks... I went twice last week. None yet this week. UGH. What is my issue? I'm failing so hard at the #NOEXCUSES challenge...
I confess... Here's a little sneak peak at a giveaway I have coming up soon. I'm terrible at painting my nails, but look how pretty these two colors are! That's Pink! and Punked from Firecracker Lacquer!
Have you seen this? Oh my goodness. So clever-watch it now or you're really missing out!
