Johnny Iovine {Musical Mondays & Giveaway}

What is Musical Mondays?
Musical Mondays is a weekly linky party where we share a song we're into for the week, and talk about why we like it-or why it effects us.  Along with talking about music, I host a month-long music related giveaway sponsored by wonderful people! September is sponsored by me!   Read on to see details!

This week's song:
Johnny Iovine
by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

*Note: This song swears-so if that bothers you don't listen and skip the lyrics below.*

I put my life on the line
I roll them dice and I'm fine
'Cuz all I ever dreamt about was making it
If they aint givin' it I'm takin it, I'm takin' it
If they aint givin' it I'm takin it, I'm takin' it
If they aint givin' it I'm takin it, I'm takin' it
I need all that sh*t

I'm gonna steal myself a record deal (x3)

If I just went in and stole it the police would have noticed
Gotta be strategic, creepin', go and leave without motive
Cut in and sweatin' (all right), casin' this building
Watching these rappers that rappin' walk in and leave out with millions
Cut in and sway there, open that front door
Interscope printed right out by the entrance door closes
Not a metaphor, now I start towards that front desk, that's right where you check in,
Dressed in a uniform, acting like a janitor, all blue, jumpsuit, why shoot?
Bloodthirsty for the money like a bull lookin' in the eyes of a matador (F*ck you!)
Carrying two cans of paint, security looks at me awkward
I say "third floor I'm late, painting Jimmy Iovine's office"
Holdin' my breath about to faint, I'm scared to death that he stops me
Heart beating so loud that you can hear the echo in that lobby
You see I'm breaking down if I don't make it out, but I'm leaving town with that contract
And I'm spazzing out, grabbin' the in or out, his chair and I'm takin' him hostage
I don't give a f*ck, step in to the elevator press three now I'm headed up (heist)
What they don't know, there's a gun in the paint can and I'm ready and willing to bust em
I'm f*ckin' desperate, stuck in this recession, now what you think?
But if I could get signed  my luck is destined, my future depends on ink
Secretary at the front of the entrance staring right at me
I walk up she whispers "go ahead" and then gives me a link

I put my life on the line
I roll them dice and I'm fine
'Cuz all I ever dreamt about was making it
If they aint givin' it I'm takin it, I'm takin' it
If they aint givin' it I'm takin it, I'm takin' it
If they aint givin' it I'm takin it, I'm takin' it
I need all that sh*t

I get past security, the secretary, and the cubicles
But it's weird, it's like this room I walked into is unusual
I thought it'd be shiny and beautiful, thought it'd be alive and like musical
But it's weird it feels like someone died, it's got the vibe of a funeral
There's numbers on a chalkboard, CDs boxed in cardboard
Artists that flocked and got dropped and never got to be sophomores
Graphic designers are sitting around waiting for albums that never come out
Complaining that they have nobody in house, wondering what they make art for
I start thinkin' "am I in the right place?" just walk forward
See plaques on the wall, oh yeah in a second those'll be all yours
Finally see an office with a melted sign, heaven sent
Big block silver letters, read it out loud, PRESIDENT
This was my chance to grab that contract and turn and jet
Right then I felt a cold hand grab on the back of my neck
He said "we've been watching you, so glad you could make it
Your music gets so impressive in this whole band you created
You're one hell of a band, we here think you're destined for greatness
And with that right song we all know that you're next to be famous
Now I'm sorry, I've had a long day, remind me now what your name is?
That's right, Macklemore, of course, today has been crazy
Anyway, you ready?  We'll give you a hundred thousand dollars
After your album comes out we'll need back that money you borrowed."
So it's really like a loan? "A loan, come on. (no)
We're a team, 360 degrees, we will reach your goals
We'll get a third of the merch that you sell out on the road
Along with a third of the money you get while you're out doing your shows
Your manager gets twenty, booking agent gets ten
So sh*t, after taxes, you and Ryan get seven-percent to split
That's not bad, I've seen worse, no one will give you a better offer than us"
I replied "I appreciate the offer, I thought this is what I wanted
I'd rather be a starving artist than succeed at getting f*cked."

As you may know by now, I'm obsessed with Macklemore lately.  Seriously, I am so in love with this whole album-most of the songs just make me feel all empowered and happy.  Uplifting rap?  Yes please! I think that Ben Haggerty (Macklemore) is my new celebrity crush... Not only does he openly and honestly share his feelings and experiences with you through his music, but he's talented and not afraid to be silly sometimes.  I love it!

This is one of my favorite songs off the album The Heist (full album review coming sometime in the near future) and I love it.  It's quick paced and makes you think it's one thing, until you find out it's all about the music industry and how they screw their artists-this is why I try to support indie artists as much as possible!  I'd much rather give my money to an individual than a big corporation that is making a lot more than the talent is.  Read more about Macklemore HERE.

From Fantastic Bloggers {The Weekly Round-Up}

♥ You had me at Indian.  No really, when Everyday is a Holiday shared this Indian Buffet Pizza I nearly started drooling.  Then I sent it to my roomie and said it must be eaten.  Photo Credit: Everyday is a Holiday

Little Chief Honeybee shared this post about The Evolution of Blogging, and it brings up some interesting thoughts.  Have a look and let me know what you think.   Photo Credit: Little Chief Honeybee

♥ Hannah from All of My Days took a drive with her honey up to Broughton Castle to collect acorns for their wedding, and she took beautiful photos while there too!  Photo Credit: All of My Days

♥ Colleen at Paisley Blvd. shared this DIY All Natural Curl Define & Shine Spray!  As a curly haired girl, I really want to try this-I spend a lot of money on curl definition products!     Photo Credit: Paisley Blvd

♥ Shane from Whispering Sweet Nothings made me laugh first with her Shit Girls Love, and now she's done it again with her post Shit Girls {Don't} Love.  She's hilarious.   Photo Credit: Unknown

♥ Slut Shaming is something I've been hearing a lot about lately, and I have to agree that it needs to stop.  I love this post from Lix at A Classic Notion about it.

What is this all about?
The point of The Weekly Round-Up is to focus on other people instead of just another post about ourselves.  It's to build better community, share insight into what we love to read, and hopefully introduce you to a new blogger you'll love and adore!  Wanna play along?  Write a post with links to your favorite blog posts from others throughout the week, put the button in it, and link up with us on Sundays!

Diamond Candles: Review & Giveaway

Diamond Candles Vanilla Lime

I was really excited to be able to review a Diamond Candle, as I've seen them around but never tried one before.  They have a lot of different and unique flavors, but I immediately gravitated towards the vanilla lime, since I'm totally into both of those flavors-so why not see how they smell combined?

Each candle has a ring in it.  The rings are valued anywhere from $10 to $5,000, so some lucky candle burner could win themselves an actual diamond

When I first received the package I was a little concerned at how strong the smell of the candle was, however once I started burning the candle, it turned out to be a much more mellow and lovely smell.  The candle burned very cleanly and made my whole apartment smell lovely and warm, and the candle seems to be pretty long lasting-so it can take some patience to get to the ring, but the suspense is half the fun!

Want to know more about how it works?  Check out this video:

The ring comes wrapped in foil to keep it safe from the melting wax and heat.  Unfortunately I was a little disappointed in the ring I received.  It was obviously a $10 ring, as it has no markings on the band at all-which is ok, it's just really not my style at all as I probably wont be sporting a little pink flower on my finger.

However, there are still lots of really gorgeous rings in these candles!  It's kind of a gamble what you get, and that is half the fun-so trying for a really awesome ring while still getting a lovely scented candle for your home is worth a try!  Here are some of the rings other's have received that I love:

You can follow Diamond Candles on Instagram to keep up with more ring reveal photos!

The Giveaway
Diamond Candles is giving one of my lucky readers their very own candle with a ring in it!
Open to USA only.

Stereotypical French Men, Skulls, & a Lip Sync Off

I confess that I finally broke down and bought the dreamcatcher necklace I've been dreaming of from Roots and Feathers.  She had a sale, and I saved $18 so I couldn't pass it up!

I confess that I've been working on a lot of little skullies and sugar-skull projects for the shop.  I'm hoping to have a bunch up soon and get more made this weekend!  Here's a little sneak peak-I'm loving them!

I confess that I finally had to turn the heater on for the first time this year.  It went from 90 degrees to 40 degrees in a few days, and it's been cold and raining with a really bitter wind the last few days.  But sitting in my apartment enjoying wine with two of my favorite people while the heater made us all warm and cozy made me remember how much I love my life.

I confess that Shawn and I have been working on a Tech Support Guide for work for the last month, and this week was crunch week so my brain is fried from all the technical writing and editing I've had to do.  But we were really excited to be finished with it!

I confess that I like drawing stereotypical French men while doing course work in my French class.  I also confess that they sprung a new requirement on us last week, that we have to meet with a campus tutor at least three times, and that the first had to be done by today.  I should also add that the tutor is only there from like noon-four during the week and his Saturday last week was all booked.  Um, guess that's not happening for me since I don't even get back to the Salt Lake valley until about 4:40pm.  It just makes me really angry that A: They gave us a week to try and make it in, and B: I DON'T NEED A FRENCH TUTOR!  I live with a French teacher, I have an actual French person who sleeps on my couch once a week, and several other friends who speak it fluently.  I speak and practice it all the time!
I confess I super-love Joseph Gordon Leavitt, and even more after watching this video!

Don't forget there is only 4 more days to take $10 off any Holiday Ad with code EARLYBIRD!
