Join Me in March

Whew, can you believe it's the last day of February already?  I can't, this month flew by.  Actually this entire year is flying by already and I'm having a hard time keeping up! Crazy!

I just wanted to put out a Sponsor Call for March.  February was a HUGE month for my sponsors and I-we had an amazing group giveaway for a $100 Etsy Gift Card (Congratulations Maria Elena!) which gained us all a couple hundred followers.  I mean the giveaway had 4,960 entries-it was fantastic and there were a lot of eyes on us all!  Plus I got to tell you all a little bit about them which was lovely.

BOGO
Buy your ad for March and get an April Ad FREE!
For any ads purchased at full price between 2/29 and 3/15 I will automatically add another month on!  That's buy one get one free-with all the bells and whistles!  You will not regret it!

March is going to be an even bigger ride for My So-Called Chaos and sponsors, and I'm promising a lot more dedication to my social media as well as the blog-which means more interaction and eyes on you too!   There will be more posts in my new series (already wildly popular) So You're a New Blogger, which started yesterday with Lesson 1: Blogger Lingo, another big giveaway, and more!

New Blogger Series: Blogger Lingo

New Blogger Series: Blogger Lingo

I have decided to start a new series called So You're a New Blogger? in order to help new bloggers learn the ropes and get caught up with some of us more experienced bloggers.  Not a new blogger and found this useful? Great! I also hope it can help experienced bloggers increase their knowledge as well.

Blogger Lingo: Readership & Following

GFC: Stands for Google Friend Connect and is a slightly-outdated way of measuring followers and following blogs.  While it still runs and works for most google blogs, it has been mostly dropped by google in favor of Google+.
Note: There are all sorts of other kinds of ways to follow including: by email, BlogLovin', HelloCotton, Linky Followers, RSS (definition below), etc.
RSS: RSS stands for Really Symple Syndication. You can subscribe to a blog via an RSS feed and then use it in a reader.  I use Google Reader with mine, but there are a lot of them out there.

Follow By Email: You can set up a widget on your sidebar that allows them to follow you by email. As long as they put in their email and verify they want to follow that way your posts will be emailed to them each time you post.
Monetizing Your Blog: This is the act of making profit off of your blog.

Blogger Lingo: Advertising Terms

Sponsoring: A form of advertising.  When you sponsor a blogger you will usually pay a set amount (most bloggers who accept sponsoring have a sponsor/advertise page that lists these prices) and you get to have your button/ad on their blog for a set amount of time.  A lot of bloggers offer other perks with the advertising, such as them writing about you on their blog or in social media, the option for you to participate in a giveaway, etc.
Note: Check out my Advertise page for an example of how I have it set up and what I offer.  If you'd like to advertise with me, use code newblogger for 25% off any size!
Ad Spot: An Ad spot is the space you purchase for your ad/button to be. Predetermined size by the blogger you're sponsoring.  Usually the ad spots are shown on the sidebar of the blog.

In Post Feature: This type of ad spot is a feature ad that is included in every post.

Passionfruit Ads: A very popular and easy way to manage your sponsorship for a small fee.

Affiliates: If a blogger partners with a brand or company they become an affiliate.  This usually means they blog or mention that product, earn referral points, and often have exclusive discounts.

Button Swapping: This is where other bloggers put your blog's button on their blog in return for you putting their button on yours in an effort to promote each other.

Google AdSense: This is an advertisement run through Google, where you are paid based on the number of unique click throughs.

Blogger Lingo: Types of Posts

Feature Posts: These are posts that are specifically geared towards showing off another blogger, shop, or product.  These usually come with certain sponsorship options, or just when someone wants to share you with their readers.

Sponsored Posts: A post the blogger is paid to write.

Reviews: When a company or shop sends you product to test in return for you to write a post about your experience using that product.

Guest Post: A post someone else writes for another site.  So you may be able to guest post on another bloggers blog, or they may want to guest post on yours.

Round-Up Posts: A post that usually includes multiple links to things.  Either a round up of their favorite posts during the week, of giveaways they have, etc.

Blogger Lingo: Design Terminology

Blog Buttons: Unique buttons/images to identify your blog.  Usually you can post one with the code on your blog, so other bloggers can grab your button and put it on their blogs in order to promote

Blog Headers: These are basically the image/words that people first see when visiting your blog.  Most often along the top of the page, but recently I moved mine over to the right for a different look.  These should show a little of what your blog is like, list the title of your blog, and can include words or other images that relate.

Social Media Icons are the little images that link to your social media sites from your blog.

Sidebar: The sidebar is the area on the side of your blog where you can put links, images, ads, etc.

Blog Intro Graphic: A graphic that usually includes a photo of the blogger, a welcome message, and a brief paragraph about the blogger so you can see who the writer is.

Tabs/Pages: These are the links along the top of the page (or on the side in some cases) that directs you to other places on the blog such as About, Contact, etc.

Blogger Lingo: Networking and Social Media

Social Media Sites: These are websites where you share with others. Your blog, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. are all good examples of a Social Media site.

Social Media Shout-Outs: A lot of bloggers with sponsoring options will offer Social Media Shout-Outs. This means that they will mention you on their social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Linky Parties: These are often theme-based (but not always) blogging events where a blogger (or multiple bloggers) hosts a link-up with it.  They post the theme (or idea/content/etc.) and along with that host a linky where you can in turn write a post that fits that theme and then add your blog link to the party on their blog.  There is then a list of other blog posts that fit the Linky Party theme, and you can go visit the other posts and hopefully the other bloggers will come visit yours as well.
Note: These are GREAT for making new blog friends and gaining readership, especially if you fully participate and leave meaningful comments on the other bloggers posts-they'll usually come back and check yours out as well! I host three of these!

Blog Directory: A place where you can list your blog to get more eyes on it, as well as search for other blogs to read.

Blogger Lingo: Blogging Events

Swaps: Blog swaps are fun and exciting ways to get to know other bloggers through snail mail.  Often these are also theme-based and hosted by bloggers.  You get matched up with a partner, get to know your partner, and send them a package (associated with whatever theme) and they send one too!
Note: I also co-run a swap blog, so you can see more examples and maybe participate in one by visiting Chaotic Goddess Swaps!
Giveaways: Pretty self-explanitory-you can enter to win things in these!

Group Giveaways: A giveaway where there are multiple contributors to the prize.  Usually a group of bloggers who have each donated something.

Blogging Conventions: These are gatherings that are physically held somewhere where bloggers can come together and meet in person.  Sometimes travel is necessary to attend, and most of the time you have to buy tickets.
Note: Popular blogging conventions include Alt Summit, Bloggy Bootcamp, BlogHer, and more.

Party, Snow, & IKEA Fail

This weekend was another snow-filled one.  I'm really hoping that Spring will come soon because I'm definitely feeling the affect of the never-ending winter.  It'll be sunny for a day or two, but then we have another giant snow storm that blows through.  On the plus side, when it snows then at least it clears out the inversion that haunts the valley here in Utah.  It's hard to breathe, especially for people with asthma (like me!) and other issues...

Roommate Walking in the Snow

Friday I stayed home sick from work, but by the evening I felt well enough to meet up with friends for Pho!  I love Pho, and Rocky even came out to Pho before he had to head into work (he works graveyards) which was very sweet. I may not get to see him quite as much as I'd like, but I am completely impressed that he makes time for me when he can in his busy schedule-he really makes an effort to.

Saturday we threw a party because my friend David is in town.  I haven't seen him since he moved to Seattle months ago, so it was fun!  He makes me happy!  Also, a very happy drunk Meggy makes me happy too-she was hilarious!  The few friends who dared the snow to attend were a lot of fun, I was so glad to have them there!  It's safe to say I got pretty smashed... But so did most others, and Julie fell asleep behind the couch when we were watching stand-up comedy and eating Betos... lol

Sunday left me feeling pretty antisocial, so after breakfast when the roommate and Julie left I vegged out until I worked up enough energy to put together my art table that has been waiting for me since December... It was fun building the legs, but then when it came to the table top, I was disheartened to realize that I somehow made it home with a table top that doesn't fit the legs I bought.  Grr.  Now I have to go back to IKEA and exchange them...

I find it humorous though that my nailpolish kept leaving marks on the wood! Haha!

I am really missing being creative, so once I get the desk back together I'm hoping I can update my shop with lovely new items, and cheer myself up with some creation.

I've been feeling a little blue lately, so let's focus on the happy this week:
  • Good smoothies make me happy.  I tried them with fresh pineapple and coconut water and am in LOVE.  My favorite was fresh pineapple + frozen peaches + frozen mango + coconut water-so delcious!

  • Rocky making time for me whenever he can in his busy schedule-so sweet!
  • My friends-they're amazing and I don't know what I'd do without them!
How was your weekend?

Talk to Us TuesdayMy Happy List

Ho Hey {Musical Mondays}

What is Musical Mondays?
Musical Mondays is a weekly linky party where we share a song we're into for the week, and talk about why we like it-or why it effects us.  Anyone who links up a song and a post about that song is entered to win a big music giveaway at the end of 2012.

This week's song:

Ho Hey
by The Lumineers

I've been trying to do it right
I've been living a lonely life
I've been sleeping here instead
I've been sleeping in my bed
Sleeping in my bed

So show me family
All the blood that I will bleed
I don't know where I belong
I don't know where I went wrong
But I can write a song

I belong with you, you belong with me, you're my sweetheart
I belong with you, you belong with me, you're my sweet

I don't think you're right for him
Look at what it might have been
Took a bus to china town
I'd be standing on Canal
And Bowery

She'll be standing next to me

I belong with you, you belong with me, you're my sweetheart
I belong with you, you belong with me, you're my sweet

Love, we need it now
Lets hope for some
So, we're bleeding now

I belong with you, you belong with me, you're my sweetheart
I belong with you, you belong with me, you're my sweet

***

This song always puts a smile on my face, even when I'm feeling really down.  I've been feeling a bit blue lately (I'm blaming this never-ending winter and my lack of physical activity lately) but somehow this song puts a smile on my face.  So much fun.

The Weekly Round-Up

The Weekly Round-Up

It's time for week two of the Weekly Round-Up linky!

How it works
Throughout the week keep an eye out for blog posts by other bloggers that you love, and keep track of them.  You can save them in a draft post, bookmark them, write them down-whatever works for you.

On Sundays, grab our pretty button (code above) and create a blog post with a list of those blogs that you loved, inspired you, or you generally want to share with everyone and link up with our link!  You should also follow both High-Heeled Love and myself who host!

Why do we do this?
We believe sharing posts and focusing on other bloggers is important for building community and creating friendships!  It's time to stop being so self-focused and branch out to others as well!

Isabelle is a fellow Utahn, but she's not originally from here-she was born and raised in Paris, France! That is why she goes by the nickname "Frenchy" and she is always hosting awesome French inspired linky parties!

Not only does this genius lady have a wildly successful blog, but she also wrote a book called A True Binky Story: The Babies in Heaven Need Them.  You can buy it on Amazon for only $1.99 and it's so cute! She also took all the photos herself!

She also created a fun iPhone photo editing app called Bonbon Pic which allows you to do fun things with your pictures inspired by her designs! So cute!

Aubrey hosts a ton of linky parties, including Wino Wednesday, Friday Confessional, Shoe Lust Saturday, and she's my co-host for The Weekly Round up where we feature other bloggers.  It was totally her brain child, and I'm so grateful for it!

Ashlie Blake is one of my favorite people ever.  She is a sweet and talented kindred spirit who lives to paint and express herself daily-I envy her dedication and her ability to form a few colors into something so awe-inducing! Her work has so much soul, and her colors and creations are vibrant and beautiful!

When it comes to art, or even life in general, I really look up to this amazing woman! She has an amazing family, a dedication to making beautiful things, and she's an incredibly deep thinker who inspires me in so many ways!

If you want to read a blog that is thought provoking and soul-soothing, Painting Bliss is definitely one of those reads.  Plus you get to see all of the lovely watercolor concoctions she comes up with, and read the amazing words she adds to them.

Danielle is a full-time college student who enjoys getting her creative juices flowing by listening to John Mayer while browsing Pinterest.  This girl is also an avid Grey's Anatomy fan (like me! Yay!) and a chocolate and nail polish addict. She's also super creative and crafty, as well as a little artsy-plus she writes some awesome blog posts!   She's incredibly sweet, and always has a kind word to say!

Did I say Artsy?  Oh yeah, shall I prove it?  Check out her shop which is full of fun prints and printables.
