This weekend I went up to my second family's place for Courtney's going away party. Courtney joined the Navy, and left Monday morning for boot camp, so we wanted to get some family photos in before she left. Just look how grown up she is!
So we took the family and my DSLR up to Beus Pond in Ogden. Man there were so many memories that came flooding back being up there. Melanie Grace and I used to wear our witchy skirts and run through the sprinklers at 2AM... Many times we trekked up there for a night walk around the pond, or a day exploration through the back paths so full of ferns it looked like a hidden fairy land. We definitely had some good times, and while it looks much less alive in the dead of winter, it was a beautiful backdrop for photos anyway.
This also follows directly after Ken and Kristina's eleventh wedding anniversary. Eleven is a good long time to be married!
I am so very far from professional. I have a nice camera, but I'm seeing where I definitely lack in the skill to take anything that looks professional. Thank goodness I'm taking a class-we're going to have to do a new round of family photos this summer so that I can compare my skill level.

ReplyDeleteMy neighborhood is experiencing an uptick in crimes.....and not just "hey, I am going to break in while no one is home" kind of crimes - but in your face, it is early evening, and I am just going to step up to you and threaten you with a knife or gun kind of crimes. So - I was immediately drawn to her post about the incident at her workplace - so thankful no one was hurt more seriously.

ReplyDeleteThe ninja pose one cracks me up! You got some great shots in terms of their personalities....I think a brush up of your technical skills and you'll be all set! (if that doesn't sound like a compliment- it is! In helping my bro and sis-in-law shop for wedding photographs, there were a lot that were technically good but had no idea how to get candid shots or make people feel at ease, and that's just as important).
ReplyDeleteAlso, congrats to Courtney! Not gonna lie- as a petite woman she's going to have a struggle (that's two points of having to prove herself). BUT I've known some truly badass Navy women, of all ages and experiences, and I know it can be a stable career, and a rewarding one. And even though I don't know her, as a woman and the daughter of a long line of Naval officers, I'm damned proud of her for doing it.
