Hippie At Heart

Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong era.

Melissa over at Expanding Leaves is amazing, and she's also a tea expert so I asked her where I could find some Green Tea Matcha to make Greet Tea Lattes at home.  The Green Tea Lattes from Starbucks are my absolutely favorite drink, so to save on budget I decided I'd like to try and make them at home.

So I finally made it to Whole Foods to pick up this stuff!
I don't think it's the right thing, but it tastes pretty close when I brew it, add some milk, sugar and ice.  Yum! Next time I'll try just the powder-this time I didn't because it's so pricey.
Anyways, when I was at Whole Foods I watched all the health conscious people, and the granola women with their dreadlocks and hemp clothing.  Part of me wishes I could be like them.

Call it the gypsy blood in me (I'll have to write about that sometime) but every time I pass one of these, I yearn so very badly to sell all my worldly possessions, buy one, and make my way across the continent; going wherever the wind blows.

I want to go and protest something that really matters to me.  (I do this sometimes, usually for equal rights.) I want to stand in a crowd of angry civilians who are showing their disapproval with love and songs.  Gathered in a circle on the capitol steps singing.

I want to go to burning man.  I want to run through fields in my underwear, and dance around the maypole skyclad without worrying about what I look like, or what people will think of me.  I want to be that uninhibited.   I secretly wish I could live in a commune of such people.

I'm a free spirit, caught in a modern world.

I try to live pretty green (there is still a LOT that I should be doing) and I try to approach everyone with love; even though that is very hard sometimes.

I wish I were a Hippie.

For now, I'll just be a Hippie at heart...

  1. I kinda see what you're saying. To be able to just throw it all aside, and let it happen...oh the freedom!

  4. I think I really know how you feel about this. I often get that feeling, too. Plus, back then people actually believed they could change the world, change everything, while nowadays it's not like this.

  5. The native Americans lived like that, too. They didn't understand land ownership. It was one of the things that made a peaceful co-existence with the white man impossible. White man only understood land ownership and the Native Americans saw people as caretakers of the land. The concept of "ownership" didn't compute. In fact, living on a piece of land FOREVER depleted the land's resources and it wasn't right. These two groups of people had core beliefs that were at odds with one another. I find it ironic that "we" called the indians savages. Their lives were all about living in harmony and balance with the land. We cannot say the same.
    ~~Peace Out~~

  6. The whole undies in a field thing; they were high and didn't know they forgot their pants.
Ask me how I know this.
RE: Native Americans; Robin nailed it. I find it funny that so many Americans are so proud of their claim to native roots, yet they live very modern. Native is not a bloodline alone, it's a state of being.
We all live in a modern world, but we have plenty of opportunity to reacquaint ourselves with where we walk through it.
If you want to really know what it's like to run through a field in your undies; skip Whole Foods and visit a co-op farm. If you can smell dirt your on the right track. ;)

.... Just don't take of your drawers until it's dark.

  8. I sense a skinny dip coming on! My cousin is a hippie. She young and hasn't seen much of the world. I remember back when I thought I could be too, now...I think the "other world" has scarred my more free self. It's amazing how much conformity can sneek its way into one's life.
I really loved your post and look forward to the gypsie secrets!

  11. I thought this was a wonderful post! It makes me very sad that it has become, in some ways, impossible for us to go join in protests and try to affect change within our country. I have had to miss several protests because of lack of resources, and threat of losing my job should I join in. I'm so a hippie at heart, too! But I think the world has forgotten about us, or chosen to ignore the dissenters. However, the more of us there are, and the more we discover one another, the harder it will be for the powers that be to ignore us. I think you should start a neo-hippie, pro-equality faction!

p.s. I like your new header, too!

  12. Lovely post. Really lovely. Shows us the inner you. Run uninhibited. Hmmm. Who wouldn't want to do that? I would like to be like that. Unrestrained from worldly forces, doing only my thing. I am game for it, but we all know that practically it may not be that easy to do. For now, I'll join you in being a hippie at heart.
