You Probably Don't Know...

Miss Angie with her Pineapple Drink

Hey, I saw this cool link-up over at Chasing My Extraordinary, who linked me to the host-Helene in Between!  Like my pineapple picture above?  I chose it specifically because of Helene's pineapple picture. Themed? Yes please!

So this is a fun little link up about things you might not or probably don't know about me...

- I own 300 bottles of nail polish and my nails are almost always bare.  (Thus why I'm selling about 100 bottles HERE)

- I blog daily while at work, but very very very rarely when I'm at home.  It's just too hard to go from my work computer with my ergonomic keyboard and three giant monitors to my little laptop with it's 13" screen.

- I'm the most disorganized person.  I don't use my planner I bought, my house is in a constant state of clutter, and I'm always feeling like I'm running around with my head cut off trying to keep blog stuff organized.  I'm working on this. lol

- My typical style is jeans and a graphic T-shirt, but I also love a nice flowing sundress.

- I wear a shaper top everywhere.  It's an issue, I know it, but I just don't feel comfortable if I don't have it on.

- When I was 16 years old my grandfather made me a deal.  He said if I lost 100lbs and kept it off for 6 months he'd pay me $2,000 or put it towards a new car.  You'd think that would have been a motivator, but I think my damned rebellious spirit took issue with it and I never did.  I found out Sunday that this deal still stands...  I just don't know how to feel about it.

- I've only had one lasting monogamous relationship, and that was my very first one.  We were together for about a year and a half.  I had one other relationship that was about that long, but he wanted to be "Polyamorous"... For him that meant he was keeping his options open.  Other than that, I get a few months out of them-not for lack of being great at being a partner, I really am, I just pick the wrong guys.  It's a pattern.

- I'm extremely impatient.  Yet I'm always waiting for things.  WTF is up with that?

- I buy things and then never use them.  Thus, the 300 bottles of nail polish and planner I never use... Or my gym membership...

- I seriously don't know how to budget, but I'm buying a house and doubling my outgoing, so I really need to learn.

- I'm incredibly loyal.  Not to the point of being a doormat anymore, but I'll pretty much stick by you unless you give me a really good reason not to.

- I'm both an introvert and an extrovert.  No really.  I want to go out and make lots of plans to, until the time comes to actually go out and then I just wish I could stay home.  However, if I then go out I have a great time... But then it takes two or three days at home to recover. Haha!

- I love to cook, but hate cooking for just me.  I want to cook for other people.

- I learned to type with a double space after the period and I cannot break the habit no matter how hard I try.

- My thumbs bend at backwards at almost a 90 degree angle.  "Hitchhiker Thumbs"

- I am easily susceptible to food advertising.  If I see a really effective ad or photo, it doesn't matter if I don't even have to like the restaurant to suddenly crave it.  Such as a double cheesburger from McDonalds (ew) or Animal Fries from In-N-Out.  Neither place I eat at or usually want, but man that one ad will get me obsessing. (While writing this, I literally stopped and went to In-N-Out because Shawn set me this link and number three got me bad. lol)

What don't I know about you?

T-Swift's 1989 Inspired Ask Me Anything

T-Swift's 1989 Inspired Ask Me Anything

You know, I used to consider Taylor Swift my guilty pleasure, I mean I only kind of liked teenager Taylor with her cheesy songs, but then Red came out and I was hooked-but there's kind of a stigma about being a T-Swift fan.  However, then I stumbled upon Kati's post I Don't Believe in Guilty Pleasures and you know what?  I'm going to just be a proud fan now.  I shouldn't have to justify what I like.  1989 was another awesome album from Taylor Swift, and this quiz is fun.

So I saw Beth do this post, and then I was directed to Kenzie's post (how did I miss it in March?) and now I want to do it.

01. Welcome to New York.  If you could live in any city, which would it be and why?
If we're choosing from cities I've visited, I'd probably choose Seattle.  I also love San Francisco, but Seattle is more affordable and I have a lot of friends there so I wouldn't be lonely.  Plus I'm a PNWer at heart.

02. Blank Space. What is something that everyone things is true about you, but actually is not?
I think probably that I'm someone who's horrible to date.  I mean what else must they think of me when I can't maintain a relationship?  I'm really not high-maintenance, so it's kind of funny.  I just choose the wrong guys.

03. Style. What is one item in your closet that makes you feel unstoppable?
Hmmm... It's hard to say, but I have a few really great dresses that make my figure look good and show off my rockin' awesome cleavage.  Usually those things make me feel unstoppable and sexy-a good dress goes a long way.

04. Out of the Woods. What is one thing you're afraid of.
Not being memorable.  I don't want to be someone that's easily forgotten.  I'd like to think I leave a mark on people and that they think of me often, even when we're not a part of each others lives anymore.  Maybe we all like to think that of exes and such.

05. All You Had to Do Was Stay.  Who is someone you wish was still in your life?
Oh what a question to ask me.  I've been feeling so incredibly nostalgic lately, especially when it comes to lovers.  I wish a lot of my friends from my old job at Sparetime were still around.. I miss all of them so much.  There's also a few guys from that time in my life I wish I could catch up with and see how they're doing.  Not necessarily rekindle anything, but just see how they are.

For example, there was this guy I was seeing for a while when I was twenty.  He was in his late thirties and the situation was not ideal (lets just say he wasn't supposed to be available and leave it at that) but he was always such a nice guy.  Sometimes I'd like to just see how he is.  The other night I was so nostalgic about it, I actually stayed up way too late trying to find information about him-but I don't remember his last name.  Bummer.

06. Shake it Off.  What is something you had to shake off?
My tendency to be a doormat.  I used to let people walk all over me-not anymore.  I know sometimes I can come off as quite the B for that, but it just has to be that way.  I'll always be a giver, but in order to not give too much to people who don't deserve it, I have to set very firm boundaries.

07. I Wish You Would. What is something you would like to happen right now?
Oh man, I'd really like to find a house to buy and have it actually go smoothly.  I'm starting to really dislike this whole house hunting process.  I really want to move, and I want to own a place and just be done with it!

08. Bad Blood.  Have you ever had someone stab you in the back?
Oh yes, but who hasn't?  Like Beth said in her post, it's a natural part of growing up and moving on.

09. Wildest Dreams. What would you like to be remembered for?
Like I said before, I really hope people think of me with some sort of fondness.  I hope guys from my past remember me as someone that could have been something real, or someone who was at least a good part of their life at one point.

10. How You Get the Girl. What's your favorite pick up line?
Oh man... Pick up lines are so cheesy and none have ever really worked on me, but I haven't met a lot of people in real life that way anywho and online pick up lines are the worst.   I'm generally won over by a sincere compliment or just a "hey let's get to know each other."

11. This Love.  What is one thing you got back that you never thought you would?
I'm honestly not sure.  Maybe some friendships where we've fallen apart and come back together-those have been wonderful and I'm so glad for it.  After MelanieGrace and I lived together I didn't think ours would ever be repaired, but now I know that even though she's on the other side of the country, we'll always be in each other's hearts.

12. I Know Places.  Where is one place you always feel safe?
Honestly, I can't really think of a specific place I feel safe in, but rather the company.  I feel safe when I'm with certain good friends-those friends you know will always look out for you no matter what?  They make me feel safe.

13. Clean. What's an important lesson you have learned in life, and how did you learn it?
That I don't need a man to be happy or to do the other things I want to do in life.  I think society teaches us to grow up and find someone who "makes us whole" and I spent a lot of my life waiting for that person to come along.  But you know what?  I'm whole on my own.  Finding that person would be icing on the cake-but you know what?  I don't need that to feel complete.  I can be happy with myself and I can go after the things I want without relying on someone.

How did I learn that?  A lot of failures.  A lot of being single and having broken hearts, and the eventual growing tired of waiting around for some kind of fantasy.  Realizing that it's a fantasy made all of the difference, and it will hopefully help me recognize something real when it happens.

House Hunting Update & Currently... April 2015

House Hunting Update & Currently... April 2015

Confessing... May of you may have heard on social media that the cute little house I put an offer in on fell through.  The inspection report from the last person who attempted to buy the little blue bungalow came back "absolutely horrible" and my Realtor highly recommended I back out from it.  What do I have to confess? I was relieved.  Honestly the neighborhood it was in was not one I loved-in fact two days after I put in the offer on the house a guy was murdered just two blocks from it.  So when I was no longer in love with a house out there I stopped looking in that area.  It was a relief!

Anticipating... Since then I've done a little more looking and I put in an offer on a townhouse in Murray!  It's in a much better neighborhood (close to just about everything you could need!) and I decided that while I'm in school and working full time that not having a yard to worry about or snow to shovel is a much better idea.  The townhouse needs quite a bit of updating (though is livable in the meantime), but it has a lovely stone fireplace and a nice private patio where I can put a potted garden!

Hoping... That I get the cute townhouse and everything goes smoothly with the closing.

Pinning... Ideas for potted gardens!  I'm obsessed with what I'm going to do and plant out on that patio.  You would be surprised at what you can grow in a container-even dwarf cherry trees!  Just look at this inspiration:

DIY Herb GardenDIY Ladder GardenTownhouse Narrow Garden Space

Reading... I'm still in the middle of the audio book of The Poisoned Pilgrim in the Hangman's Daughter series.  I'm also reading a lot of posts on DIY home stuff and reviews for things like Washers and Dryers.  I really wonder how well one of those All-in-One Washer Dryer Combos works...

Watching... Movies on DVD.  My internet has been down all week (Thanks Comcast blah-they're finally sending someone out tonight) so even though I subscribed to the new HBO Now, I have NOT been able to watch GoT yet.  Bah!  So here's what I've watched this week:

House Hunting Update & Currently... April 2015

The Voices:  You should seriously watch this movie.  It's so hilarious and so twisted, and it actually makes you feel a little like you're crazy while you're watching it because you're seeing things through his eyes.  Ryan Reynolds really pulls of that adorably insane thing well.

The Theory of Everything: I'd wanted to watch this for a while, and it was sweet, but long and kind of slow also.  It was a great watch for a little bit of historical information on Stephen Hawking though-and a very interesting relationship dynamic.

Disturbing Behavior: I wasn't sure how I'd never seen this before, but Angel gave me a box of DVDs and this was in it.  It was really a very interesting thriller that I enjoyed-even if Katie Holmes isn't the greatest actress... She was kind of blah.

Rock My World: This was also one of Angel's DVDs and it was really cute!  Kind of slow and so very 90s (though it came out in 2002) but really really cute.

Crazy Little Thing: Also from the box of DVDs Angel gave me, I LOVED this movie.  It was just so honest in the way it portrayed these two people and their friends, and I found myself sitting on the living room floor laughing really hard a few times.

Listening... I have a current playlist of the newest albums I've downloaded that I've been listening to on repeat. Basically these:

Eating... Well since I'm trying to buy a house and I've been trying to be super stingy the last few weeks, I went to Costco and bought a case of tortillas and a case of re-fried beans.  Honestly, I've been living on bean and cheese burritos and Easter candy.  So not healthy.  I finally made a trip to Winco and bought a bunch of healthy stuff the other day, so here's to eating better.

Working on: My final photography project, math homework, and buying a house.

Wishing: That I had better carpentry/builder skills.  I really want to build some book doors for my new house, some great wooden flower boxes, a fold out table for my patio, and an amazing wall/storage/Murphy bed combo for my spare room.  Just look at how amazing this is:

BEFORE & AFTER: GUEST STUDIO RENOVATION

Wanting: This fold out picnic table, but it's from another company and the website isn't even in English.  There has to be someone who can build me one right?

Dreaming... Of all the fun DIY home projects I may get to do one day... Ah.  I'm obsessed.

Feeling... Much less stressed about this offer.  I think maybe all that sleep I was losing last time was my gut telling me it wasn't right for me.  Hopefully this place is much better and I can move soon!

What's up with you these days?

Book Title Tag

Ah, this looked like a fun little book survey that I found over at Beth's blog.  I thought I'd go ahead and play along.  Basically you pick book titles that go along with the question-sounds fun right?  If it sounds fun to you, tag yourself. :)

1. Title that's the story of your life:
DUFF: The Diary of the Ugly Fat Friend by Kody Keplinger

Currently... December 2014

Currently... December 2014

It looks like my last Currently post was in May-so I think it's time for a little update here!

Reading: Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon on my iPad, but I've been obsessed with Audio Books lately for when I'm in the car, working, or cleaning.

Watching: Gilmore Girls.  I've seriously binge-watched that entire series for the last month.  How did I never know what I was missing?  That stupid show made me cry more than once.

Writing: This blog.  There have been papers, lots of papers, but otherwise everything else is on the back burner.

Listening: Audio Books pretty much exclusively.  I just finished the entire Goddess Test Series and The Hangman's Daughter via Audible (reviews coming soon), and I think the next one I'll start is The Dark Monk.

Eating: Too many bad things.  I need to seriously get my diet back on track.

Drinking: Water and a LOT of coffee.  I found this local coffee called Highland Grogg and it's amazing.  I'm also liking Trader Joes' Wintery Blend coffee.

Caffe Ibis Highlander Grogg

Wearing: Jeans, fun t-shirts, and sweaters and scarves.

Working on: Christmas gifts!  Seriously, Kristina and I had a great idea and put it into play.  I can't wait to share it with you all after-so it's not spoiled.

Waiting for: Work to be over.  Josh is in town from Canada and will be at my house tonight and I'm DYING to see him.  I got the guest room all set up, went grocery shopping, and I've missed my best friend so much!

Loving: These Christmas gift ideas, Josh being in town, audio books, and spending time with friends.

Needing: To go back to the gym.  I've slacked bad and I'm starting to feel it.

Thinking: That I've just gotten used to living alone, and now Josh will be here for a month and I'll have to get used to it all over again.  I'm not complaining, I'd take him being here for however long or short he will be-I miss him so much. I'm wondering if it's going to make me really sad again when he leaves, or if I'll adjust faster since I've already done it once.

Feeling: Oh feelings... This has been a weird one for me lately.  I'm feeling that pull to start dating again.  I hate dating.  I want to just be with someone who's comfortable already-but I know I have to go through the dating process to ever find that.  I keep feeling like I want to reconnect with guys from my past, but I keep shaking that off. I need to move forward, not backward.  But man-the feelings.  I've been kind of emotional, and maybe a little lonely.  But that's the holidays!  In other feelings, I've been feeling a lot of compassion for people I tried to hate.  I never can hate anyone, but I have to watch my damned bleeding heart to make sure I don't fall back into anything.  Again, forwards, not backwards.

Forgiveness Quote

Hoping: That I do better in school next semester.  This semester was probably the worst I've done since I went back to school.  Not failing, but passing with Bs and Cs, and I don't like it.

Dreaming: Of a reality where no one leaves, and you don't have to date in order to find love.  No, I'm not being stupid about it-but man wouldn't it be nice if things were easier on the heart?

Being Inspired By: Amazing creative writers.  I really need to follow that dream.

Blog Tour: My Writing Process

How fun is a little blog tour?  I'm super flattered to be tagged by Kenzie from Chasing My Extraordinary in her blog tour post, she said such kind things about me!  So let's get down to it shall we?

>>What am I working on?<<
Currently the majority of my focus is for my classes in school.  Unfortunately school currently sucks up a lot of my time and stamps out any room for new things, though they are still brewing in my head.  Artistically?  I'm about to begin work on a new idea I have for handmade Christmas gifts, which I can't tell you about yet because it'll ruin the surprise for those who are receiving them.  I also have a new Etsy idea, but it's going to take such a large amount of work that it wont be ready until next year, probably late next year.  There are still novels partially written on my computer, but for now they're going to rest while I write papers and solve math problems. :)

As for the blog, I'm working on getting everything set up and running for the Holiday Hotlist and 12 Days of Giveaways both here and over at Chaotic Goddess Swaps, which will accompany the 12 Days of Christmas Swap we'll be announcing there in just seven short days.  Yikes, I'd better get moving!

>>How does my work differ from others in my same type/genre?<<
That's a really hard question.  Personally, I don't believe we're all completely original little snowflakes, and I think teaching people that promotes over competition and resentment when someone who thinks they're unique finds someone a lot like them.  That doesn't mean we're all 100% identical obviously, but I think we are all similar enough that we should be promoting working together, rather than always standing out.  Personally, I know my voice may unique to me, but I get inspiration from other people without even knowing it, and when I come up with an idea all on my own I inevitably stumble upon someone else who had a similar idea before me, even if I never knew them before.  That's how the world works.  I would rather work on respecting that and embracing our similarities than getting upset over not being totally different from everyone else.

I love this quote from Jim Jarmusch in the 2004 MovieMaker Magazine (#53 Winter): “Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to."

>>Why do I write what I do?<<
Why ask why?  I feel like we could get really existential here if we wanted to, but I'll avoid delving too deep into the psyche of "why" here-ha!

I write because I want to remember.  I want to connect.  I want to leave a lasting bond or legacy with the few people who knew me, or who truly took the time to get to know me through this blog.

I write to flex my creative muscles.
I write to keep up the habit of writing, so the talents and words are not lost in the shuffle of life.
I write to put my feelings and thoughts into the universe.  To manifest my future.

I write because the thing I've wanted to do most in the world since I was seven years old is write.

I guess that's why I write, but not why I write what I do.  So why do I write what I write?  Because it's what is there. It's what exists within me wanting to come out, and if I never let it out it implodes.

>>How does your writing process work?<<
There's no science or planning behind it at all haha!  Honestly, each and every post starts as a bunch of jumbled thoughts that I need to spill onto the page so I just start writing. I write and write and write without knowing where I'm going, and once it's all out on the page I go back and re-read what I've written to make sure it make sense.  Sometimes (a lot of the time) it doesn't, and things need to be reorganized, or I find I've completely switched direction somewhere and one post then becomes two.

Unfortunately when working on novels/books it doesn't work quite the same for me.  I get too hung up on editing as I go, instead of just letting it all come and going back.  I'll write a page and go back and edit and edit and edit until I've lost my flow and the book sits for a few months.  Guess I need to learn to apply my blog writing habits to my books.

>>Blog Tour<<
I'd like to introduce you to three of the strongest and most compassionate lady bloggers I know.

This is Karen from A Peek at Karen's World.  Karen has been a great bloggy friend to me over the years, and I love how she presents herself on her blog.  Not only is she one of those people that accept you for who you are even though her beliefs differ, but she has unending support too!  She's always been incredibly supportive in her meaningful comments she leaves-she's a great bloggy buddy.  On her blog she talks about a little bit of everything, but she also has a fantastic sense of humor and a storytelling ability that makes everything she writes intriguing! Seriously, it's fantastic. Go read it.

It's not hard for me to express just how much I love and appreciate Beth of Printcess & Living a Goddess Life.  This girl has been so many things to me in the ten years we've known each other.  Shes' been my personal "Dear Abby", a "shoulder" (though virtually) to cry on, and one of the best friends a person could have.  She's also my partner with the Chaotic Goddess Swaps venture, and without her I'd be lost.  I mean seriously, without her CGS wouldn't be around because while I do a lot of the design work, she has all of the organizational talent.  She keeps things running smoothly!  Trust me when I say this-you NEED her blog in your life.  If's so useful, and she's a great friend to have!

Another blogger I had the pleasure of being introduced to and having in my life for quite some time now is Aubrey from High-Heeled Love.  If Wonder Woman is real, it must be Aubrey.  She owns her own business and is a jujitsu warrior.  I mean, she's one tough cookie who can hold her own in this crazy world.  I absolutely look to Aubrey for shoe, wine, or coffee advice (three of the best things in life) and I am so grateful to know her-she has such a big heart.

May 2014 Currently

May 2014 Currently

It's been a little while since I wrote one of these... In fact it was just before school started last August.  It seems fitting that I should write one now that the school year is over and Summer is beginning.  I'm currently...

Watching: So much... I just started Penny Dreadful, which looks like it's going to be wonderfully Macabre.  Have been keeping up with the regular stuff, loving The Mindy Project the most but the season finale was this week and now it's over.  Sadness.  Mostly we've been marathoning Leverage and The Paradise on Netflix.  Oh and the little interviews they did for Orange is the New Black which comes back next month!  Oh and Cosmos.  Science is cool yo!

Listening to: Music wise, it's Head or Heart by Christina Perri.  On Repeat.  But also Lights Out by Ingrid Michaelson and a lot of French music like Zaz Recto Verso and Stromae.  Also podcasts.  I've recently gotten super addicted to The Savage Lovecast (Dan Savage is brilliant!) and Star Talk (Neil Degrasse Tyson is also brilliant!)  I love learning-and I learn so much from both.  Emotions and sex talk from Savage Lovecast, and all about science and space and deadly diseases from Star Talk.  It's awesome.

Writing:  This blog mostly.  I have started a chapter in my book-but haven't picked it back up yet.  Oh and my journal.  I've been filling it like crazy! It's almost time to switch over to a new one!

Playing: Duolingo (to practice my French) and my Nintendo 3DS.  Mostly Zelda and Lego games.

Eating:  Lots of salads in a jar (a recipe here), Yogurt, and Trader Joes Mac & Cheese.  Yum.

Drinking:  Lots of coffee & Water.  Also Beer, Wine, Lambic, and Jack Daniels Tenessee Honey.

Wearing:  Lots of clothes from Torrid.  Currently black skinny jeans, with a red button up and boots-but I did just put in an order for these gorgeous items that I can't wait to receive:

Waiting: For the weekend.  Also Summer things like camping, swimming, and traveling.  I can't wait!

Loving:  My life.  My friends. My family.  School being over.  And a certain someone being back in my life.

Needing: To get my ass to the gym and to start hula hooping again!  Also to make some art.

Wanting: To spend more time with that certain someone.  Yeah I know-I'm such a girl.  Oh well.

Thinking: That I think to much as always.  My mind is always spinning spinning spinning, and sometimes I think myself into a problem that doesn't exist.  But my logical brain is getting better at talking myself down.  But I'm also thinking about good things-lovely wonderful things and possibilities.

Feeling: So much, I don't even know how to sum it up here.  I have a whirlwind of emotions inside of me right now and that's okay.  It's better than feeling nothing at all-and a lot of those feelings are good.  There's a lot of change going on and coming up-so figuring out just how I feel about it is a process.

Hoping:  To love and be loved back.  That's my sincerest and most simple hope at this moment. ♥

Dreaming: Of a future filled with far-off destinations, writing, French, and lots and lots of love.

Being Inspired By:  The PizzaSisters4Lyfe movement on Instagram.  It's a group that I found out about through Okay Allison, and that was started by Lilly The Rad.  It's all about body love at any shape or size, and there are so many fantastic girls to connect with all over the world.  I love it.

Let's Party! {UBP 2014}

Hello and welcome to both my current readers and visitors from UBP 2014!  I'm joining the party today and celbrating, and since you can't see me-just know that I'm over here dancing.  I'd totally be toasting if I wasn't at work, and then off to school-but when I get home I promise to raise a glass in celebration of the Ultimate Blog Party!  This is my third time participating-I did first in 2010 and then the last time I played along was 2013!  This year I have also donated 3 months of featured ad space that you can enter to win HERE.

My So-Called Chaos: Ultimate Blog Party 2014
My name is Angie, but I go by Miss Angie around here.  I will be 28 on the 18th of this Month (yay birthday month!) and I'm a single girl living in Salt Lake City with my best friend.  Currently, I'm attending college part time and working full time.  I love to make art and be crafty, get outside for things like camping and hiking, travel, and throw parties.  I'm big on hosting things.  Want to know more about me?  Check out my About page!

Here are a few photos I feel might give you insight into my life and show you my personality in a very visual way!

My So-Called Chaos was started in 2008 as a way to document my life and connect with others.  It has blossomed into so much more than I ever imagined.  Here on My So-Called Chaos you will still find the documenting of my life, my dating misadventures, and so many photos-but you will also find crafts, art, recipes, reviews, and giveaways.  I LOVE to give stuff away.  No joke.

I also enjoy regular activiites around here such as my Musical Mondays linky where we share music, link up, and enter to win a month long music-related giveaway; or the Monthly Goals linky where you link up your goals and support each other each month; or our sunday linky called The Weekly Round-Up where we show off posts by other bloggers!  I love to support other bloggers and handmade shops.  My So-Called Chaos accepts advertising, find an extensive breakdown of sizes and offerings or sign up HERE.
