A Very Happy Christmas Eve

Happy Christmas Eve!  I have so much to be incredibly happy about today/this week/this year.  There is just so much joy around here!  First of all, I'm happy that I get to be alive for amazing historical events.  When I was passed a link to the local newspaper's website Friday afternoon saying that Federal Judge Shelby struck down Utah's Amendment 3 as unconstitutional-I thought it was a joke.  I mean I knew that marriage equality is a giant rolling ball that cannot be stopped at this point, we had 17 states who'd passed it already-but I never in a million years expected Utah to be number 18.  We're a red state.  We're controlled by a heavily right-wing religious (with a religion that actively spends millions of dollars trying to prevent "gay marriage") group of people.  I expected Utah to be one of the last few.

But the reports kept pouring in.  It was real.  It was happening.  Just a few hours after the judgement was passed Utah had it's first same-sex marriage on the books.  Hundreds more followed excitedly! It was all anyone could talk about and I sent links to nearly everyone I could think of-this was momentous.  This was history in the making.

As Sunday evening rolled around and the Governor and his cronies actively begged for a stay while they prepared their appeal.  Couples camped out overnight in front of the Salt Lake County Clerk's Office hoping to get their licenses early before the process could be halted.  At 6AM on Monday morning my very dear friend (and work-husband) Shawn texted me to alert me that he was in line with his partner Justin.  They were couple 152 in line and everyone was nervous they wouldn't make it in before court began at 9AM and the judge could rule whether or not "gay marriage" would be stayed in Utah.  Judge Shelby stood by his first decision and denied the stay.  Marriage continued, and Shawn and Justin were legally wed right here in our home state.  Something I didn't think we'd see for many many years.  My heart was so full.

Last night we all went down to the rally/Celebration for Marriage Equality in Utah to celebrate.  The crowd was large and gathered at the courthouse to celebrate.  There was singing, there was cake, there were speeches, and a live marriage performed right there on the steps in front of us all.  The energy was amazing.  For the first real time I was proud to be a Utahn with people I love so close around me.

When the celebration ended, we weren't ready to stop-so we met up with Callie (Callie, a good friend of ours that works for the city, actually married Shawn and Justin earlier that day!) and Brigg and walked down to the pub for drinks.  We drank beers and shots with the happy couple, and several other happy couples in the bar.

Suddenly the music changed and all of the sudden the entire bar jumped out of their seats to sing along with "We're going to the Chapel and we're gonna get married..." and there was dancing, and celebration, and so much joy.  The energy and the love in that room was so intense I almost started crying right there!

As we left the bar we were all a little tipsy and highly elated.  The day was monumental, not only in our lives, but in the course of history-and we were all awed that we were able to be alive to see it-and be surprised by it.  My heart is so full for all of the wonderful couples who were able to legally marry the loves of their lives over the last few days.  It makes me happier than I can possibly express.

The Fun Bus, Good Food, & Fall Swap

This weekend was pretty fun.  Friday night we took it easy because we knew that Saturday would be long and exhausting.  Saturday was the day of the Fun Bus, which we were volunteering on this year.  The Fun Bus is a charity event with the Utah Cyber Sluts and the proceeds went to the Utah Pride Center Mental Health campaign.  It's a fun charity because you take the bus out to Wendover (if you're not from Utah-it's the border town between Utah and Nevada where all of the sudden gambling becomes legal lol) and you play bingo, win prizes, and get drunk on the way up.  You then spend the day in Wendover and catch the fun bus back home.

In previous years we've always just gone and donated to charity, but this year the roommate and I were both on separate buses helping out.  The way to Wendover I was a runner.  Taking money for things like beer, soda, and other donations.  Now, as a person who gets car sick on the swings at the park, you'd think I would have remembered Dramamine, but I didn't-and was sick most of the way.  I still had a ton of fun though, and so did my friends!

Once we got to Wendover I proceeded to get much too drunk (too much vodka cranberry-when will I remember that hard liquor is no longer my friend?) but still had a pretty good time.  On the way back I called Bingo, and was pretty darn funny-if I do say so myself.  A lot of the people on the bus loved it and said I should call bingo more often.

We wont even get into the crappy drama that followed... Where there are drag queens there will always be drama...

Sunday was pretty relaxed as I nursed a bad hangover, but I did get the urge to cook something and made Elk steaks with stuffed squash on the side.  Recipe coming soon!  It was delicious, but sadly later that evening I started coming down with a bad stomach bug that kept me in bed most of Monday too.  Boo.

I also got my Fall Swap package from the lovely Niki from My Life Remixing!  Niki has swapped with us over at Chaotic Goddess Swaps before so it was fun to get to know her through the Falling Into Fall Swap hosted by Tales of a Twenty Something.  Below is what she sent me, and if you want to see what I sent her, see it HERE.

A fall towel, some cocoa, a Pumpkin Spice candle, and Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin (one of my faves!) lotion and body wash!  Thanks Niki!

Same Love {Musical Mondays & Giveaway}

What is Musical Mondays?
Musical Mondays is a weekly linky party where we share a song we're into for the week, and talk about why we like it-or why it effects us.  Along with talking about music, I host a month-long music related giveaway sponsored by wonderful people! September is sponsored by me!   Read on to see details!

This week's song:
Same Love
by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

When I was in the third grade I thought that I was gay
'Cause I could draw, my uncle was, and I kept my room straight
I told my mom, tears rushin' down my face
She's like "Ben you've liked girls since before pre-k"
Tipping, Yeah, I guess she had a point didn't she?
A bunch of stereotypes all in my head
I remember doing the math, Like yea, I'm good at little league
A pre-conceived idea of what it all meant
For those that liked the same sex, had the characterisics
The right-wing conservatives think it's a decision
And you can be cured with some treatment and religion
Man-made re-wiring of a predisposition, playing God
Ah nah, here we go, America the brave still fears what we don't know
That God loves all his children is somehow forgotten
But we paraphrase a book written 3500 years ago

[Chorus]
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to
My love, my love, my love
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm
She keeps me warm

If I was gay I would think Hip Hop hates me
Have you read the YouTube comments lately?
"Man, that's gay" gets dropped on the daily
We've become so numb to what we're saying
A culture founded from oppression
Yeah, we don't have acceptance for 'em
Call each other "faggots" behind the keys of a message board
A word rooted in hate yet our genre still ignores it
And gay is synonymous with the lesser
It's the same hate that's caused wars from Religion
Gender to skin color, the complexion of your pigment
The same fight that led people to walk outs and sit ins
It's human rights for everybody there is no difference
So live on, and be yourself
When I was at church they taught me something else
If you preach hate at the service those words aren't anointed
That holy water that you soaked in has been poisoned
When everyone else is more comfortable remaining voiceless
Rather than fighting for humans that have had their rights stolen
I might not be the same, but that's not important
No freedom til we're equal
Damn right, I support it

[Chorus]

We press play, don't press pause
Progress march on with the bill of rights
We turn our back on the cause
Until the day that my uncles can be united by law
And kids aren't walking around the hallway plagued by pain in their heart
Or a world so hateful someone would rather die than be who they are
And a certificate on paper isn't gonna solve it all
But it's a damn good place to start
No law is gonna change us, we have to change us
Whatever God you believe in, we come from the same one
Strip away the fear, underneath it's all about the same love

[Chorus]

Love is patient, love is kind
Love is patient, love is kind
Not crying on Sundays
Not Crying on Sundays
I'm not Crying on Sundays

[repeat x3]

Not only is this song completely and utterly fantastic and full of love, but the video is wonderfully directed with beautiful filming.  I don't care what you believe in, or which god you pray to, but I completely agree with this song that it's all about love.  At the heart of almost every religion is Love.  If you strip away all the politics, and other things, you're left with love.  Love love love.

I didn't post this to start a debate.  You all know where I stand on this issue.  I am all about love.  We can disagree, but I still love you-just as I love my friends and family that are gay, and just as I love those who aren't.  If you leave a negative/nasty comment on this post It'll be deleted-so just walk away if you disagree.  I. Still. Love. You.  ♥

On another note, I am so totally and completely in love with Macklemore, it's not even funny.  LOVE.

Nail Polish, Nail Polish Art, Nail Polish-ish Swaps. Whoa.

Hello lovelies, happy Friday-and I really mean it when I say TGI-FREAKING-F.  Seriously, I had a break during the middle of the week but I'm already read for another! Cheers to the freaking weekend.  I took Wednesday off in order to take time to do some cleaning, but didn't get much done... Going to have to kick it into gear son though! Ready for some confessions?

I Confess...
I have been making art a lot lately.  Lovely little ink and watercolor illustrations of nothing other than nail polish.  Hey now, before you go judging me people are eating that stuff up!  Pretty much all that I've made are spoken for!

I Confess...
I can finally share a couple of illustrations with you I made in January.  I'd been saving them for friends for their birthdays so I haven't posted them anywhere until now.  Here are Megan and Julie.

I Confess...
I need to STOP buying nail polish.  But here is the haul this week... Some were from swaps, actually most, so they didn't cost me more than the shipping. But hey I got my very first piCture pOlish, my first A-England, my first Aly's Dream Polish, first Piggy Polish,  and my first holographic polish.  My new favorite polishes are A-England St George (seriously so amazing), and Color Club Halo-Graphic Miss Bliss.

I Confess...
This week's Manicure was Zoya Zuza.  It was grittier than I expected, but as the week grew I came to love it, and it lasted a long time!

Maria is an angel that knows me well enough to send me my itty bitty beauty swap box full of nail polish.  You should follow Maria over at Agape Love Designs because she's awesome, and a go-to beauty girl.  She did an entire series dedicated to doing your makeup based off of the Disney Princesses.  Amazing. Oh, and follow over at Chaotic Goddess Swaps so you can join in our next swap!

Cara Box

I Confess...
I got my Cara Box Swap too!  I love the Cara Box swap, it's cheaper and fun!  I sent a package of food (because I had such a hard time figuring out what to send) to Tammi at If You Could See What I See.  Carissa from T is for Townsend  sent me this lovely package from Arizona.  She must know me, because there was an Essie in that box! One I'd been wanting for a while! Thanks Carissa!  Also thanks Kaitlin from Wifessionals for hosting!

I Confess...
Mr. Bingo told me he's coming to visit this month.  He'll be here around the 17th and I'm so excited to see him!  I miss his face.

I Confess...
I want to buy a Canon T3i DSLR soooooo bad.  Amazon has it for only $799 with the fancy lens.  However I'm having a hard time parting with my savings.  You see, I've never been good at saving money (if you ever doubt that, scroll back up and look at my nail polish haul) so now that I've actually learned to and I have a good chunk in the bank-spending any of it makes me cringe.  I feel scroogy about it.  But I really really want the camera... I think it'll improve my blogging and my shop photos.

I Confess...
It's the Pride Festival this weekend, and I'm actually walking in the parade with the Utah Cyber Sluts (the drag queen charity group I volunteer with) and I have to confess that it freaks me out.  Seriously social anxiety to the max.  Also I plan on stopping by and saying hello to CFPU (the rescue I volunteer with) who'll have a booth there as well!   Kristina and my sweet godbaby are coming down to see me too!

I hope your weekend is STELLAR!

I Needed New Dice...

Hey lovelies!  Ack, I can't believe Tuesday is here again... I personally think that Tuesdays are the longest day... Mondays I feel refreshed from the weekend (or maybe super busy trying to catch up after being away from the computer all weekend?) so it seems to fly right by, but Tuesdays?  Nope.  They're too far in either direction from the weekend maybe, they draaaaaag.

However, I love Tuesdays because I get to share my weekend with you.  Friday night I left work an hour early so I could rush down to the the Super Adoption and help CFPU because they didn't have enough volunteers.  It was nice to be back volunteering with them, and I got to walk the dogs and meet them all.  I haven't done it in a while.

Left is Moose, a crazy little chihuahua rolling in the grass. Right is Billy, such a sweetie!

Saturday was pretty laid back until I went to my little brother's house for his birthday BBQ.  I had such a good time with my family, and this is the view from his front yard:

Utah Mountains

Sunday I had a date.  Yes, a first date.   It was with a friend of a friend who I had actually met a few years ago at a party-small world!  However I was a bit too honest apparently, and I was nervous so I teased the whole time... You know that whole "use humor to deflect" thing.  Haven't heard from him since so I'm guessing he's ducking out... But I looked damn hot:

Shawn was in Vegas all weekend, so he brought me back new dice.  You see he'd just told me last week (in regards to my romantic life) "Girl, you need some new dice because you keep rolling snake eyes!" So he left them for me this morning.

Seeing as I spent the entire evening downing wine last night... 4 glasses to be exact... Now is a good time to focus on my happy list.  Here's what is making me happy (other than the things mentioned above!) this week:
  • My New Chewbacca shirt.  It's so cute!
Let the Wookie Win Torrid
  • Beth sent me a surprise book in the mail, and I'm excited to start reading it.  She told me I'm going to get a good laugh out of it!
The Between Boyfriends Book
  • It's been lovely and rainy for like a week!  That's always nice!
  • I went to Noodles & Co last night hoping to get some Mac & Cheese, but they've now posted the calorie counts on the board and I was NOT eating something that has 1500 calories in it.  I just couldn't do it.  I went for Thai soup with no add ins for only 480 calories.  My need to be healthy is finally overpowering my desire to eat tasty things-I am loving this!
  • I'm really starting to think of myself as someone who is pretty, and I'm learning to love myself despite my issue with my weight, which is a nice turn around!
