I am an inappropriate laugher.
Always have been and probably always will be.
This is quite an inconvenient habit to have, and almost impossible to break.
Have a quick view of the above video.
That's exactly what it feels like.
(P.S. I love that show.)
When I was a kid if I'd get called to the principals office, I'd laugh
as he explained what I'd done wrong. Then I'd get in more trouble
because of course I'm not supposed to think my misdeed is funny-I'm
supposed to show solemn regret and promise to never do it again. The
interesting part is that I didn't think it was funny at all, and I was
sitting there quivering in fear of the authority figure reading me the
riot act-yet little uncomfortable giggles were all I could muster.
Then there was the time I was sitting there watching Titanic, and it gets to the point where Leo's character had finally frozen to death and she peels him off and watches as he sinks down into the water. Eyes glazed over and hands stretched upwards. I burst out laughing. To be fair, I couldn't help it because the shot looked so incredibly ridiculous. Still, it was arguably inappropriate.
It's kind of frustrating, when people don't understand how you could be laughing at something so serious-but at the same time-laughing is better than crying right?

ReplyDeleteThat episode of Coupling was absolutely one the the BEST. I LOVE that show! Have it on DVD, hahaha! Until they got rid of Jeff - the best character ever.
ReplyDeleteI never find anyone who knows about that show!!!!! I'm so excited that you posted that! Hahahaha!
"I am an inappropriate laugher" I am one too...always thought that I would grow out of it. Sad to say I haven't and probably never will!
ReplyDeleteToo funny! Certainly breaks the tension! :)
ReplyDeleteVisiting from Mama Kat's :)
I just cry. Haha. I cry at things I shouldn't ALL the time. Not a little tear either...full blown sobbing. It's ridiculous and makes me look completely weak. Oh well!
ReplyDeleteStopping by from Mama Kat's!
I'm a cryer, myself,....but my 7yo is an inappropriate giggler, and worse yet, HE has an infectious laugh, so even if you didn't think you would ever giggle in a particular situation, once he gets started...welll...
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem. I also grin at inappropriate times, like when I'm nervous.
ReplyDeleteOMG...I laughed when I watched The Notebook. I'm a monster.
