12x30 Challenge: Organization & Cleaning Calendar

For the February Organizational 12x30 Challenge I wanted to really work on getting organized this month-but I didn't want to totally overwhelm myself in the process.  Then the idea hit me-I needed an calendar with tasks split up day by day, and not only did I want to make one, but I wanted to share it with my friends in the bloggy world too.  So here it is-click on it to enlarge.  You can also save/print it.  Can you imagine how nice your place will look if you get through all of these?

Get organized this February with daily tasks!

For those of you that might prefer a checklist version of this calendar, never-fear for I have created one of those too!

Get organized this February with daily tasks!

As you can see, I've left some room on both of them for you to add things you need as well.  So feel free to personalize it a bit and make it what you will after you print it.   Here's a further explanation of what some of these mean:

Kitchen:

  • Organize Pantry: Organize your food storage, cans, pasta, etc.  Throw out food that is past it's expiration, or donate food you know you'll never eat to a local shelter or home.
  • Organize Pots & Pans: Organize your pots and pans storage. Throw out/donate any that are worn or unused.
  • Organize Dishes & Cups: Organize your dishware and throw out/donate any that are not used or broken.
  • Organize Utensils: Organize your silverware and serving utensils so things are easy to find.  Throw out any that are broken or worn.  Try hanging things like big spoons or measuring cups.
  • Wipe Down Cabinets: It's probably been a while, so take everything out of your cupboards and cabinets and give the shelves a good cleaning.  Try using vinegar and water or a cleaning solution.
  • Deep Clean Fridge & Freezer: Take everything out of the fridge and freezer (make sure to turn it off when you do) and give it a good cleaning inside and out.  Throw out any food that is past it's expiration.  Throw away coupons or papers you have hanging up that are expired or not applicable any longer.  Don't forget to turn it back on when you're done!
  • Clean Stove, Microwave, and other appliances: Give these a good deep cleaning/de-crumbing.
  • Disinfect Trash Can: Take out your trash and then give the can a good scrub down with some bleach.
  • Clean Behind the Stove & Refridgerator: Pull them out (carefully) and sweep/mop/wipe down behind.
  • Clean Walls & Baseboards: Give your walls and baseboards (and don't forget the dirty light switches) a good scrub down.  You might find that they're more white than you remembered...
  • Sweep/Mop/Scrub Floors: Give your floors the best cleaning of their life-wax if needed.
Living Room:
  • Organize & Dust Shelves: Sort your books, movies, music, knick-knacks, etc. and dust.
  • Dust TV & Appliances: Dust around these, and use electronic wipes to get the fingerprints and smudges.
  • Wipe Down Furniture: Give your table, stands, lamps, and furniture a good wash down.
  • Clean Walls & Baseboards: Give your walls and baseboards (and don't forget the dirty light switches) a good scrub down.  You might find that they're more white than you remembered...
  • Vacuum Floors & Furniture: In between couch cushions, lift up rugs, make it thorough!
Bedrooms:
  • Organize Drawers: Sort out your dresser and make sure everything is in it's place-fold socks and sort into proper matches, get that pesky night-stand in order, etc.
  • Organize Closets: Go through your clothing, shoes, bags, etc. and figure out what you no longer use or wear.  Donate the stuff you don't or wont use and get your closet into a workable condition.  You can put in more shelving, get a hanging wrack, use bins on shelves, etc.
  • Dust/Organize Shelves: Sort your books, movies, music, knick-knacks, etc. and dust.
  • Clean & Flip Mattresses: Give your mattresses a good vacuum and flip them!  If it's a pillow top, you can just rotate the mattress to prevent wear and tear.  Clean any mattress pads or toppers you may have.
  • Clean Walls & Baseboards: Give your walls and baseboards (and don't forget the dirty light switches) a good scrub down.  You might find that they're more white than you remembered...
  • Vacuum Floors: Vacuum under your shoes, under the bed, under rugs, etc.
Bathrooms:
  • Deep Clean Toilet, floors, Tub/shower, etc.: Pretty self-explanatory.
  • Clean Mirrors: A little vinegar water is a great natural alternative to glass cleaner. :)
  • Organize Vanity Area: Sort through your vanity area and make sure everything is in it's place.
  • Throw Out Old Makup: Did you know makeup has an expiration date? Definitely check how everything in your stash and throw out anything that's no longer good or that you don't use.
  • Organize Jewelry: Sort through your jewelry and toss/donate anything you no longer wear.
  • Organize Medicine Cabinet: Go through your medicine cabinet and make sure everything is easy to find.
  • Throw Out Old Medicine: Throw out anything that is expired or that you may not use.
  • Clean Walls & Baseboards: Give your walls and baseboards (and don't forget the dirty light switches) a good scrub down.  Especially make sure you get behind the toilet and the shower walls as they can catch all manner of things you might not want to think about.
Bonus: Kenzie found this awesome makeup expiration chart!

Workspace:
  • Organize RSS/Bloglovin: Clean out your Bloglovin or RSS feed.  Delete any blogs you don't follow or constantly find yourself passing over and sort your blogs into different categories for easy reading.  I even have A, B, C, etc. categories set up for who I want to read first, or when I'm not busy, etc.  Groups like "Beauty Blogs", "Fashion Blogs", "Fitness Blogs", etc. are great too!
  • Organize Your Pinterest Boards & Bookmarks: Make sure they're all classified like you need (create new boards if necessary so you can find things easier) and delete any that you don't think you'll ever really use or that lead to dead links.
  • Organize Computer Files: Sort your pictures and documents into folders and clean up your desktop.
  • Backup/Organize Your Phone: Back up your phone and sort through the files and pictures there as well.
  • Sort Mail/Paperwork: Sort through your mail and paperwork that you have laying around.  Recycle any junk mail or unwanted papers (make sure to shred anything with your personal information on it first!), and file anything important.  Filing cabinets or bins are easy to come by, or you can create a big Filofax/life notebook with the important information.
  • Tidy/Dust Shelves & Desk:  Sort your books, movies, music, knick-knacks, etc. and dust.
  • Organize Closets: Go through any closets or storage and dejunk/organize it.
  • Organize Drawers: Go through any drawers and throw out any junk that is just cluttering it.  Try sorting things into bins (I use mason jars for pens and stuff) for things like paper, pens, etc.
Vehicle:
  • Detail Car: Clean the apolstry, wipe down your dashboard and vents, wash the windows inside and out, take the car to a car wash if needed and get it nice and clean-a good wax goes a long way too!
  • Vacuum & Clean Carpet: This will make your car seem so much cleaner!
Other:
  • Wash Windows: Wash your windows inside and out.
  • Wash Blinds: Take your blinds down and give them a good soak/scrub down.  Especially the Kitchen.
  • Dust Ceilings: Get a long handled duster and run it across your ceilings and door jambs. This will collect any unwanted dust and spider webs that may be lingering.
  • Launder all Rugs, Blankets, Pillows, and Towels: Give everything a good laundering, and make sure to take anything extra nice (like down pillows or blankets) to a qualified dry cleaner.
  • Wash Light Fixtures: Take the light fixtures down and wash/dust them.  Ceiling fans too!
  • Change any Burnt out Bulbs: While you're in there, replace any bulbs that no longer work.
  • Organzie Hall Closets: Go through your closets and organize them.  Fold any towels/blankets that may have just been stuffed in, organize games and storage, etc.  Use tubs and boxes to sort cords and other small stuff that you need.  Throw out/donate anything you no longer use or want.
  • Re-Pot House Plants: Check your house plants and re-pot anything that has outgrown it's current pot.  This will make them grow bigger and healthier in their new little home.
  • Replace A/C & Furnace Filter: This should be done at least twice a year for better breathing.
  • Clean Keyboards/Remotes: These things get really gross, wipe them down with approved wipes or a damp disinfectant rag (lysol spray helps if you're careful with it) and use an air can to blow all the gunk out of your keyboard. Giving your computer, monitor, and phones a quick wipe down is a good idea too, make sure you're careful with anything wet though.
  • Sweep Porch/Sidewalk: Any outside space really, sweep or vacuum it and keep it looking nice.
  • Tidy Garage/Storage: Garages and storage rooms/facilities can easily get gunked up with junk. Go through and throw out/donate anything you no longer need, and sort and organize the stuff you keep.
  • Vacuum Air Vents: Take the air vent covers off and vacuum any dust or gunk that's fallen down in them.  I'd give the vents a good wipe down too while they're off.
  • Wash doorknobs & Handles: I forgot to put this on the list-but it's a great idea to disinfect these!
Happy Cleaning!
Did I miss anything?  Let me know in the comments!

Or you know, you could just hire an industrial cleaning company to take care of it for you.

  6. I am so stupid in love with this layout of chores. I um... think I need to create my own pronto! I have SO MUCH I want to do with our apartment but it feels so overwhelming. Breaking it down like that looks much, much more simple!

  8. Let me know how it goes, I also get distracted easily... Especially when the dilemma is between homework, housework, and Netflix... Netflix usually wins.

  9. This is such a neater version of a to-do list. I might be copying it! I have a daily planner at the moment, but it's strictly for blogging purposes. It might be nice to have one for household chores as well.
