Salt Lake FanX 2015 #FanX15

Salt Lake FanX 2015 #FanX15

This year, Salt Lake ComicCon changed their FanX event to January this year, and seeing as it's so soon after the holidays and I have a vacation coming up, it was shaping up to be the first event I'd miss.  Luckily my friend Jan won a bunch of free tickets and got me in free on Saturday!

We showed up at 9AM which was two hours before it even opened.  This is because the first panel starting at 11AM was Billie Piper and we wanted to make sure we could get in and get good seats.  She was so charming, and her interviewer was one of my favorite radio personalities-Kerry Jackson.

I confess... She was worth the long wait, even if waiting that long is super boring and frustrating.  lol

Ken in the Billie Piper Panel at FanX 2015

Ken waited in line to ask her a question.  He wanted to ask her about her about her career as a pop star before Doctor Who.  He was sure he'd be the only one to, but Kerry Jackson brought it up before they even started questions-bummer!  Did you know she was a pop star?  It's terrible 90's brit pop.  Seriously.  He asked her which her favorite song was, and it's this one:

I confess... I kind of love it.

I confess... Kristina and I were both bummed that not a single person asked about her in

Luckily since we got good seats we could just stay in them for the next few panels that we wanted to see.  After Billie Piper went off, they brought out Carrie Fisher. Yes. Princess. Freaking. Leia. Let me tell you, she is a HAM.  She was upset that no one had gotten her a Coca Cola so she asked the audience if anyone had one.  She declined the diet coke someone brought up, but when a guy brought her a regular one she leaned down and french kissed him, then said "You give me what I want, I'll give you what you want!"

A little bit later she brought out her dog Gary.  He is missing teeth and his tongue is too big for his mouth, but man he's cute.  She called him her "familiar" which I think is adorable.

After Carrie Fisher's panel they brought out their Lannister panel with Lena Headey and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.  That's Cersei and Jaime from Game of Thrones, but I've loved Lena for years.  I loved her in Imagine Me & You, and I enjoyed Nikolaj in Mama.  They were interviewed by Bill Allred.

Turns out, Lena is a little awkward in real life, and Nikolaj is a big-hearted charmer!

I confess... After this panel I may have a new man crush on Nikolaj.  He's just so damned handsome and charming-and boy he was just kind-hearted and sweet.  He never said one negative thing about anyone!

Felicia Day at Salt Lake FanX 2015

Right after that we all rushed to get in line to see Felicia Day.  She was lovely and charming, and it pretty much made it worth the two our wait... Even though that sucked a lot.  Unfortunately the volunteer who took the photo got it blurry, sad day-I should have just handed it to Jan, but oh well.

Deadpool/Missionary CosPlay at FanX 2015

I confess... I only took one photo of a person's costume at FanX this year and this was it.  I found the cross over pretty funny.

  2. Oh how fun! I laughed so hard about the fact that Carrie french kissed the guy that brought her a Coca Cola, I bet that made his day! How awesome that Lena Headey and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau were there!! I am definitely a huge GoT fan :D

  4. I laughed really hard too! The radio DJ who had just interviewed Billie Piper said on the radio the following Monday "I'll bet he was like 'Princess Leia tastes like cigarettes!'" lol

  11. I appreciate your blog here and enjoyed reading it. Hope you don't mind if I go on with a bit of a long reply, just curious what you thought since it looks like you guys gravitated towards the same panels and celebs that we did. :)

One of my favorite con's so far. I agree with you that Nikolaj was SO much cooler than I could have imagined. I honestly figured him for a bit of a snob and pretty boy, but he was considerate and kind to everyone. We were behind the Unicorn guy when we went in for our picture with him, he stopped and looked at him and his eyes went wide and I was thinking maybe his charm would break for a second and he yells "FINALLY!!!!!" We all busted a gut and he goes "I was waiting ALL day for you to get here. That is AMAZING!" He took time with every guest to ask their name and shake their hand/hug. I tell you, if I was female or swung the other direction I'm pretty sure he'd be my man crush FOR SURE.

1 comment on the panel with Nikolaj and Lena though, I HATED (yes in all caps) Bill as the moderator. I think Kelly did well with his panels and moderating, but Bill totally made them both uncomfortable when he jumped right in on them with questions about their incest relationship. Then he kept talking on and on and it looked like Bill realized he made them uncomfortable and lost control of the conversation, so he tried harder and harder to get it back and it just got worse and expanded upon itself. Once they opened it up for questions the two were great and seemed much more relaxed. My wife leaned over and said "Will he (Bill) just SHUT UP so I can hear Nikolaj talk more??" LoL I was surprised how Lena dressed and her mannerisms outside of TV. I almost expected more of a regal presence I guess, and was shocked with the off sort of 90's funk aura she was rockin'. She was still awesome, but her shyness surprised me even more.

Ending off, Felicia was my favorite. I wish she had more time, but it seemed she was on a pretty tight schedule and I think she undersold herself. She's far more popular in the geek world than I think she gives herself credit for. I subscribe to her Twitch blasts and loved her since the first episode of the Guild released. Billie Piper was SUPERB the first day and was fantastic to meet and be around, but I think she had a little "TOO" much fun Fri night because Sat night for her panel she looked like someone drug her straight from her bed to the stage and when we got our one on one photo with her she was a bit bummed and even trying to talk to her at her booth it seemed like she was only 20% aware you were even there. I wished we would have met her and done the photo op on Friday instead since my daughter absolutely freaked out (to the point of breaking down into tears) when I told her Billie was coming.

  12. I agree! Actually thinking back I think we may have discussed the same thing... I mean I like Bill on X96 but I really wished he'd let them talk more-we were there for them! lol And she is super shy, but I love her in a movie called Imagine Me & You (she plays a florist who ends up falling in love with the bride of a wedding she's doing flowers for) and she's more similar in that to how she presented herself in the panel.

I agree on the Nikolaj points-I wish I'd gone to get my photo taken with him! I honestly wasn't planning to go to this con for money reasons, until I got a free pass so I only spent the one day. However I already have VIP Passes for September's con!
