Salt Lake FanX 2015 #FanX15

This year, Salt Lake ComicCon changed their FanX event to January this year, and seeing as it's so soon after the holidays and I have a vacation coming up, it was shaping up to be the first event I'd miss.  Luckily my friend Jan won a bunch of free tickets and got me in free on Saturday!

We showed up at 9AM which was two hours before it even opened.  This is because the first panel starting at 11AM was Billie Piper and we wanted to make sure we could get in and get good seats.  She was so charming, and her interviewer was one of my favorite radio personalities-Kerry Jackson.

I confess... She was worth the long wait, even if waiting that long is super boring and frustrating.  lol

Ken waited in line to ask her a question.  He wanted to ask her about her about her career as a pop star before Doctor Who.  He was sure he'd be the only one to, but Kerry Jackson brought it up before they even started questions-bummer!  Did you know she was a pop star?  It's terrible 90's brit pop.  Seriously.  He asked her which her favorite song was, and it's this one:

Luckily since we got good seats we could just stay in them for the next few panels that we wanted to see.  After Billie Piper went off, they brought out Carrie Fisher. Yes. Princess. Freaking. Leia. Let me tell you, she is a HAM.  She was upset that no one had gotten her a Coca Cola so she asked the audience if anyone had one.  She declined the diet coke someone brought up, but when a guy brought her a regular one she leaned down and french kissed him, then said "You give me what I want, I'll give you what you want!"

  

A little bit later she brought out her dog Gary.  He is missing teeth and his tongue is too big for his mouth, but man he's cute.  She called him her "familiar" which I think is adorable.

After Carrie Fisher's panel they brought out their Lannister panel with Lena Headey and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.  That's Cersei and Jaime from Game of Thrones, but I've loved Lena for years.  I loved her in Imagine Me & You, and I enjoyed Nikolaj in Mama.  They were interviewed by Bill Allred.

Turns out, Lena is a little awkward in real life, and Nikolaj is a big-hearted charmer!

I confess... After this panel I may have a new man crush on Nikolaj.  He's just so damned handsome and charming-and boy he was just kind-hearted and sweet.  He never said one negative thing about anyone!

Right after that we all rushed to get in line to see Felicia Day.  She was lovely and charming, and it pretty much made it worth the two our wait... Even though that sucked a lot.  Unfortunately the volunteer who took the photo got it blurry, sad day-I should have just handed it to Jan, but oh well.

I confess... I only took one photo of a person's costume at FanX this year and this was it.  I found the cross over pretty funny.

Salt Lake ComicCon Day 3 Recap

For Day 3 (Saturday) of Salt Lake ComicCon 2014 Jan had managed to get a free day pass for Kristina and we went in a side door so Jan could use the rest room and managed to avoid lines and crowds all together.  That was nice.  The first thing we did was head toward Eliza Dushku's booth, but she had stepped away and changed it so you couldn't take photos and her autograph price went up.  So we decided to do a photo op with her instead as it would save us some money.  We tried to make it into John Barrowman's panel but there were a thousand or more people waiting in line so we weren't getting in.  We decided to grab a bite to eat and hide from the madness in the Game Room for a bit.

We then spent a half hour waiting in line for the photo op with Eliza Dushku.  It was irritating and there was a really annoying guy behind us, but it was all worth it when she put her arm around me and said "Hello groovy people!"  She's so pretty, and so so tiny.

As soon as we were done with Eliza's photo op we rushed to the line for John Barrowman's photo op. This one was incredibly long and people were already sitting because they'd been waiting a bit.  We waited about an hour in that line before the fire alarm went off.  Everyone kind of stood there looking at each other, but none of the volunteers or celebs were evacuating so we all stayed put.  The girl in front of us said that her friends who were out to the front were being evacuated, so I walked up front to ask the staff.  I said "Is this all okay? Are we fine staying put?" and he said "That's up to you" with a sneer.  So I said "Well you're not going anywhere..." and he just shrugged and turned away.  What a douche-but then we found out that they had faked the Fire Alarm in order to get some people out because they were over capacity.  Shady shady.   We did finally make it into get our photo-and I look awful, but John Barrowman is hot.

While waiting in John Barrowman's line our old pal Doug tapped me on the shoulder.  He was over a ways in the line and we hadn't seen him in years.  This pretty Jasmine also came over to ask about what we were getting our photos done for, and I asked to take her photo.

As soon as we got out of our photo op Kristina and Jan ran for some air (Kristina was beyond stressed by the crowds) and Ken and I waited for the prints.  We then decided to head towards the Game Room because we needed a break and our legs were aching.  He took off his wig and I had to get this hilarious photo of him enjoying it being gone, and the mark it had left.

We finally found Kristina and Jan again and we decided to get a couple of group shots before we called it quits.

Salt Lake ComicCon Day 2 Recap

The second day of Salt Lake ComicCon (Friday) was significantly easier to get in.  It didn't look like it was going to be, but since they had posted a huge apology on their Facebook page vowing to make it right to anyone who felt they weren't treated fairly.  Apparently there were a bunch of people who bought tickets and then stood in the registration line for 4 hours before being told to go home because they were at capacity, and they were angry.    

We didn't feel like we needed a refund, but they had forgotten to give us our photo cash the day before.  We hopped in the tremendously huge Gold pass line while Jan (who is the celebrity whisperer-no lie) went to talk to Bryan Brandonberg.  Long story short she managed to get a second Gold Pass free for her son (it was his birthday) and she called to tell us she was already in... She recommended we go to the VIP desk to get our cash vouchers, and once we did they just let us in instead of forcing us to wait in the big line again.  That was nice.  We immediately headed for Cary Elwes' booth because Ken wanted to make sure to meet him before the lines got out of control.

Cary Elwes was awesome-he put curtains up all around his booth so he could have private moments with his guests instead of rushing them through-probably also to prevent people just snapping pictures while waiting.  We got in, he signed a photo for Ken, and then he took a photo with us.  He hugged us all as we went to leave, and while I'm not a huge fangirl-I got out of that booth and actually squealed... He just smelled so nice, and was so damn suave.  I also promised him as I was leaving I'd tell you all about his book on the blog.

After waiting in his line we decided we really wanted to do a little wandering as we hadn't done enough the day before.  We found the Evermore Park booth.  Evermore Park is a new steampunk theme park coming to Utah in 2015-and it's going to be open year round with lots of great activities and fun events year round!  I'm kind of excited-it looks like it is going to be very awesome!

Salt Lake ComicCon Day 1 Recap

Hello readers!  How have you been?  First of all, let me say I am very sorry that I totally left you for 3 days without anything here on the blog.  I failed to plan posts, and I was at Salt Lake ComicCon 2014 and I had a blast!  The first day of the con was Thursday, and we had pre-purchased Gold passes months in advance but had not registered.  By the time we showed up at the Salt Palace Convention Center the line was already around the entire building.  We remarked that it looked like Saturday had looked last year, and that was strange for a Thursday! I hopped in line while Ken ran up front to see if Gold Pass members needed to wait in that line.  He called me ten minutes later to tell me he'd found someone who'd fast track us in.

Birthday Weekend & Salt Lake ComicCon FanX Recap

This past birthday weekend turned out to be one of the best I've had in years.  I'm not even exaggerating when I say it was spectacular, start to finish!  I took Wednesdays through Monday off of work to enjoy it, and spend Wednesday cleaning, but Thursday was time for ComicCon.  Kristina, Ken, and Jan all met me at my house and we rode down together.  After waiting for an hour to get in we rushed off first to the Shadow Cast/Rocky Horror Panel, and after that we waited in line to meet Sean Patrick Flannery-who is SO nice and hilarious.

After meeting him and getting a photo with him we headed back to the South Ballroom to see the Out of the Shadows Theatre Group performance which was a montage of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Repo! The Genetic Opera, and Rocky Horror Picture Show.  Then our friend who was playing Frank-N-Furter met up with us and we sat through the Boondock Saints Reunion panel and the James Marsters Panel before walking around and hanging out for the day.

Friday morning we got up and headed back down to ComicCon.  We didn't really do many panels, just kind of hung around and wandered a bit-enjoyed quite a bit of beer-it was my birthday after all!  My cute godkids were with their parents for the day so they stopped to wish me a Happy Birthday, Jan brought me a tiara to wear for the day, and it was all around fun.  

After ComicCon my friends met me at Stoneground for a birthday dinner, which was fabulous!  Great food, great booze, and people I haven't seen in a while!  Even my sweet friend Cristina who I haven't seen in years (but who's been my best friend since I was 7 years old) was able to make it! 

Saturday morning I woke up and the roommate had snuck out to buy groceries to make me a birthday breakfast.  He put together an English Fry-Up and even bought stuff to make a latte-I have an espresso machine, it just never gets used!  We took our time heading to ComicCon and managed to make it into the Patrick Stewart Panel and later that evening the Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog Sing Along, which was amazing!

Sunday was a family day.  I finished up some homework (I'm so freaking behind in school right now...) and then headed over to my grandmother's for a birthday/Easter BBQ.  It was such a great weekend, and my heart is so full of love for everyone involved!
