Day 2 of the 12 Days of Giveaways this year is Kimi from Kimi Who?. It has been wonderful getting to know her better through her blog and her awesome comments here on the blog. She's one of those incredibly supportive and friendly people that anyone can count themselves lucky to know. Also, she has cute cats. Really really cute cats.
How do you usually celebrate the holidays?
As an adult, I've not yet had a routine when it comes to the holidays. It gets spent differently every year depending on what is going on with my life at the time. The last several years, I have spent Christmas with a friend or special someone and their families - participating in whatever traditions they have. It's been a good way to compare the traditions of my childhood to theirs and decide what is important to me now that I'm all grown up.
This year? It's probably another year of mostly the same. It's my first Christmas with my boyfriend and we haven't made any concrete holiday plans. I do know one thing... it involves a lot of decorating and Christmas movies if I get my way! And dressing my cats up in Santa hats...
Are you a Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopper?
If so, what are you planning to shop for those days this year?
Black Friday - absolutely not. I tried it once and lost a lot of faith in humanity. I am all for a great deal. Who doesn't love saving money, right? But I cannot believe the way people fight over things and the number of people who get hospitalized during the event. Cyber Monday is another story. I have used this most often to update electronics that I otherwise can't afford to replace. I'm usually done with most of my Christmas shopping by then anyways.
I work a retail job, so I will be working on Black Friday *groan* but fortunately, I work for a jewelry and watch repair shop and while we will be open during most of the chaos, we won't see much of it. We carry a very small jewelry selection and most people aren't thinking about getting their watches fixed... until after Black Friday when they realize they've broken it in a scuffle. ;)
What is your favorite holiday food?
Turkey! I'm so glad I'm an adult and I can make holiday food for myself now. I grew up with dry, tasteless turkey like a lot of people did. I thought that was just sort of what it was supposed to taste like until a few years ago when I followed a recipe of Louisiana native Emeril Lagasse and fell completely in love with turkey.
Want the best, most juicy, delicious and magazine cover perfect turkey you've ever had? I'll even share the recipe with you.
What's at the top of your holiday wishlist this year?
When I started my blog, I was so frustrated by all of the beautiful pictures I saw everyone else in the blogging community posting. My cell phone is a little outdated (I'm still using the Samsung Galaxy 3) but why do my pictures suck so much by comparison!?
To help me out, a friend offered to loan me their camera, a Nikon D3000. My pictures have greatly improved and I am much more happy with the quality. Having said that, it's incredibly heavy and bulky for my T-Rex arms and short stature. I love the quality, but I felt I needed something more compact and more on-the-go.
I've been looking around at cameras a lot, knowing that I can't borrow my friend's camera forever and I decided on the Samsung Galaxy 2 camera. The picture quality is that of a DSLR, it's half the weight and it comes with a much-craved feature: It will allow me to post directly to social media via Wi-Fi.
I'm about 99% sure my boyfriend has already bought this for me. His hints aren't very subtle!
Are you planning any awesome posts on your blog this holiday season?
It's my first year being serious about blogging. I don't have a whole lot planned aside from some giveaways and reviews. I'm sure I'll be talking all about my favorite holiday movies and traditions as well as sharing our decorations and the trials of having 2 very young cats experiencing their first Christmas tree. Otherwise, I'll be participating in some of the prompted holiday posts.
What is your favorite thing about blogging?
I blogged for years over MySpace and blogger, under various blog names and aliases. It never once occurred to me that anyone would actually read it. Now, I love the idea of sharing past and current experiences that touch people. As much as I love talking about Doctor Who, nail polish, geeky stuff... my favorite posts are the ones where I open up and talk about the real, important things.
Nothing about blogging has made me more happy than when I pour a scenario out onto a page and a reader connects with me, understands, and maybe feels a little more normal. There's a lot of doctored pictures and tailored posts reflecting a life we all wish we really had. A lot of the community is "best foot forward" and I am sometimes guilty of this myself in attempt to make my corner of the internet a little more attractive. But I also try to keep it real and give you my real life perspective.
The best part is when the reader gets me, understands, and connects with me.
Kimi is offering one lucky reader a $25 Sephora Gift Card! How generous is that?
Giveaway is open worldwide and ends 12/4/14 at 12AM.
Don't forget to come back tomorrow for day 3 of the 12 Days of Giveaways!

I always know my parents would give me money. I beg them every year not to give anything since my place runs out of space. Money for food is the best!
ReplyDeleteI have to make an online wish list every year so that my family, who live overseas, can buy me gifts. We're all hopeless at surprises, especially my Mum. She will tell you exactly what she wants. One year is a red leather wallet, very specifically one with an ID holder, a coin purse, and enough slots for her credit cards. Another year she asked all the kids to club together to buy her and my stepdad an incinerator for their garden waste. So she will also end up telling you what she already bought you, so that you don't ask anyone else to buy it for you. At least it means that we always get useful gifts that we actually want!
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend asked me for an actual list. I don't think I've made a Christmas wish-list since I was a kid! I had no idea where to even start. I found it difficult to ask for anything because he already does way too much. :D But I broke down and said "Fine... you wanna know what I want? Camera it is!"
ReplyDeleteI know he must have gotten it because he told me "Well, you already know what I got for you so..." *groans* Now I'm super eager to get my hands on it. I keep thinking about how much more easy it'll be to blog once I have the new camera. Ahhhh! :D
I feel kind of bad when someone gives me money. I never know how to spend it. Do I spend it on something useful and adult-like? - Such as my rent or my utilities. Or are they expecting me to buy myself a gift? Will they be totally offended if I just save it for an emergency?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post to get to know more about someone! LOVE this!
ReplyDeleteMy grandson is 4 and there is no keeping secrets with him around. If you don't want someone to know something, you'd better not mention it around him. :)
ReplyDeleteBtw, I entered the Day1 giveaway but rafflecopter won't let me show that as an entry....
ReplyDeleteI don't really have any family either so I totally get this. Instead, like mentioned, I spend the holidays with friends typically - usually ones who don't have a lot of family or don't have the funds to travel to see that they do have.
ReplyDeleteNo shame in finding alternative ways to spend the holidays. I'm sure you can find some way to spend them - even if it means downloading some Christmas movies and enjoying them yourself. The holidays are just as much about being good to yourself as it is being good to others! :)
...and maybe you'll win a cool gift card and can treat yourself to something special
Right!? Angie does an amazing job on these posts and I'm thrilled to be apart of it. :D
ReplyDeleteI make a list or else I get some weird stuff!
ReplyDeletemy parents always give me money!
ReplyDeleteI've just asked for handwarmer mittens that plug in to a usb port... so I can game and not freeze.
ReplyDeleteI not so subtly hinted to my fiance that I wanted a few of the Matte Velvet Zoya polishes. Fingers crossed he picked up on it.
ReplyDeleteWell I know my daughter is taking me somewhere because she had to make sure I kept the date clear.
ReplyDeleteI think my husband will
ReplyDeleteBe getting me a perfume I've been wanting.
I think I might know one of my presents from my boyfriend! partly because i asked for it x
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what my husband will be getting me for Christmas but it does not matter to me. Christmas is about giving and we enjoy giving to those in need.
ReplyDeleteMy sister told me exactly what she is getting me just so she didn't mess it up :)
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what I'm getting.. i haven't told anyone I needed anything yet.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby told me he pre-ordered something but I have no idea what it could be.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't know!! Usually have a little idea, but this year, I'm just not sure. I like surprises though.

I have no clue what I'm getting but my daughter is horrible at keeping secrets!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure my parents are getting me a washing machine because they discouraged me from buying a new one until after Christmas :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I can never keep gifts secret
ReplyDeleteProbably an Ipad case since my husband keeps asking me which one I like best :)
ReplyDeleteI think I'm getting a mothers ring... Since my daughter asked my ring size and her siblings birthdays. lol
ReplyDeleteI have absolutely no idea. Mostly because my family hasn't even looked at my list yet haha. Plus I hate knowing what I'm getting.
ReplyDeleteI'm almost positive my husband will be getting me the Uggs I've been lusting after since he persuaded me not to buy them this past weekend :o) Thank you for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm getting a cat for Christmas :) My moms been hinting toward it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure of what I'm getting but I know I'm loved givingu gifts :D best part
ReplyDeleteI think if I were to find out what I will be getting, it will definitely be from my mother.. She always lets the cat out of the bag haha.
