Night before last I woke up at 4:30am with a toothache so bad that I took 1600mg of ibuprofen and then cried until it kicked in. I then called in sick to work so that I could make an emergency dental appointment somewhere to have it looked at. Even though it had stopped hurting most of the next day (probably due to excessive painkillers) it hurt when I touched my face so I was pretty sure it was super infected.

I found a new dentist up the road who my insurance covers, is really nice, and fairly attractive. I'm fairly sure I'm breaking up with the dentist that I've had since I was a little kid in favor of going to this one now. My old dentist really just does whatever-the new dentist is sweet and talks me through everything before he does it. It's great.

The tooth wasn't salvageable, so they just pulled it. It took an hour and a half and wouldn't come out-so they ended up cutting the bone to get it out-which means I now have to wait 4 months for bone to heal so they can put in the implant. I guess that's ok, by then my insurance will have rolled over for the year.

My mouth hurts like a mother-effer. Not going to lie. Surprisingly-only slight discomfort where the tooth is missing (other than the whole in my mouth wigs me out!) It's my cheek and jaw that are killing me!

I'm now on antibiotics and Loratabs for a week. I was nervous about the Loratabs, seeing as I've never had them before and I know they make my mother sick-and they make people loopy. My dentist warned me not to drive on them since they would make me as well. I took one-the only affect was that I couldn't sleep at all last night (LAME) and it wore off before I woke up this morning.

I'm going to be so much more strict on my children about their teeth. UGH! I still have a lot of work to be done...

I still went on my date despite having that whole ordeal. I just doubled up on Ibuprofen again and warned him I wouldn't be at my best. He was so sweet and offered to reschedule-but I really wanted to go. We had sushi, and luckily this sushi places had their rolls in small bites!

He also took me to see Midnight in Paris which was one of the most charming movies I've ever seen. The company was also charming-I think he's growing on me. :)

Ugh, that sounds awful :( I'm sorry! I have a feeling I may have a cavity or two right now, but I don't have dental insurance, so I think I'm just going to wait...

Oooh you poor thing! I haven't been to the dentist for ages and I'm too afraid to go. I'm worried that he or she will judge me for not coming often enough and I'm also afraid of how much it will cost...no dental insurance. I always make sure that my kids go every six months though.
ReplyDeleteI hate going to the dentist! I'd rather have a baby, then go to the dentist. That is why my teeth suck! Oh well. Glad you are braver than I am, and get things fixed.

Eek. I need to get into the dentist and I'm nervous that it's not going to go so well. But I once had a broken tooth that hurt so bad, I took 12 ibuprofen in the space of 2 hours and it never even kicked in at all.
