Giveaway: Meet Chrissy from Parlo Cosmetics & Enter to Win a $25 Gift Card

Giveaway: Meet Chrissy from Parlo Cosmetics & Enter to Win a $25 Gift Card

Hey friends!  I have another wonderful giveaway for you today, but first I want to introduce you to the amazing Chrissy of Parlo Cosmetics.  She makes such beautifully pigmented eye shadows and lip balms!

How did Parlo Cosmetics Get Started?
In 2009 I started a small candle business when my oldest son was born. I quickly fell in love with the Etsy community while running that business. Knowing that so many were burning my candles in their homes, that my custom blends were making their homes smell soooo delicious, it was sort of addicting.

Fast forward to 2010, I had my second son and I needed a girly outlet. It was a necessity at this point. That's when Parlo Cosmetics was born. It took about two years of behind the scenes formulating before I officially opened shop. I've learned a lot in these past 3 years about what my customers want, what is currently "trendy" and what I personally love to make. It's been a fun ride, and I love the steady increase in traffic and loyal costumers. Every time I get a new "feedback" notification my heart skips a beat and I'm wearing a smile all day. This company is about the people who are wearing my line, and when it's so well received it makes my whole day.

Do you have help or are you the sole proprietor?
I have three boys and a very large Weimaraner, so I wouldn't say they are help, per se. It's all me. My husband sometimes mans shipping, and by that I mean he takes my packages to the post office so they aren't sitting in the hot Florida sun.

I honestly think that I would be kind of sad if I weren't the one grinding minerals and packaging orders.

What gets you into the creative process with your shop?
I love listening to Podcasts! I also put Youtube videos on in the background. When I'm working and my kids are in the office, we are usually watching music videos, my 4 year old is obsessed with Sam Smith. Which I'm totally okay with.

Currently my favorite podcasts are Being Boss, The Marketing Lifestyle Show and I can't wait for Start Up to resume next month.

My favorite things to watch on Youtube are others being creative, I watch soaping videos, hand lettering videos, sewing channels. Just anything where others are creating.

Where do you come up with inspiration for your products?
A lot of what I do is spur of the moment. I will be lying in bed and thinking of a mica colorant and say to myself, "OH! I should totally see what happens when I mix those." Take Astro-Not, one of my best sellers for instance, if you were to see what colors actually comprised this color you would never believe the final product. It's fun, really fun.

And of course I follow what's on trend, upcoming trends. So I gather a lot of inspiration from fashion magazines and blogs.

What is your creative space like?
My office is always littered with plastic dinosaurs and play food. There's no way around it. I stay at home and work with my boys, so I can't avoid it. So I'm constantly stopping to have a play sandwich or a bowl of soup on the floor. I wouldn't have it any other way, and I know I will miss these days when I have two in school this Fall.

That being said, I'm very, very fortunate to have a designated work space. I recently "traded" rooms with my youngest so right now it's sort of a mess while I find new homes for everything. Otherwise I would love to share a picture!

I get to work surrounded by a wall of mica, beautiful rainbows of colors at my disposal to play with.

What is your favorite thing about makeup?
My absolute favorite thing about makeup is how it allows the wearer to choose who they want to be that day. I'm sure many of your readers can relate to this. :) Some days I'm a boho hippie Mom with flowy tops and loose messy hair. Other days I'm a beach babe with bright, bold patterns and short little cut offs. I can rock a Mod inspired emerald dress with heels, then the next day dress like a badass in my skinny jeans and leather boots85. Makeup allows me to play into this.

My absolute favorite thing about MY makeup is that it allows my skin to breathe, I don't feel guilty about wearing it everyday, that it's clogging my pores or smothering me. I'm mainly a "natural" girl but I have problem areas that I like to hide from years and years of teen acne, I want to look fresh and flawless without looking like I have a ton of makeup on, or causing more break outs.

What is one of your favorite listings currently in your shop?
I have two.  My all time favorite lip tint Sweet Lips and my go-to shadow Forever.

Like I said before, I wear makeup almost everyday, and these colors allow me to do so without feeling like I got a little too dolled up for the parent pick-up line... though I have totally rocked a cat-eye for no reason.

What do you do in your free time when you're not creating for Parlo Cosmetics?
I sew. I read. I play board games with my kids. We go to the beach. I love baking. I'm a very typical stay at home Mom. I'm also a pretty laid back person. I love having a few cups of coffee on the weekends to read a few blogs. I'm also really into graphic design, and I love designing branding packages. I've changed my logo and package design so many times it's almost embarrassing.

Just look at some of these beauties.  Click on the photo to go to the listing:

Younique 3D Fiber Lashes Review & Giveaway

It seems like it's impossible not to know someone who's involved in a multi-level marketing campaign these days, so for the most part I tend to stay clear of them.  However, every once and a while one comes along that actually has something I'm interested in.  When my friend Lindsey contacted me asking if I would be interesting in trying Younique, and one of their most popular products-the 3D Fiber Lashes I thought "why not?"  I figured if I didn't like them then you'd get an honest review about why-right?

Well I liked them.  I need practice with the application, but they really did make my lashes look fuller and darker-which was nice!  I have long-ish lashes, but they're light colored and a little sparse. Anything that will make them look glam is good by me!  I applied regular mascara first and then went out for the morning, and when I came back home I applied the 3D Fiber Lashes to try it out.

In these three photos, the first one is my lashes without any mascara (right out of the shower), the second is with regular mascara (well, a really good mascara-they don't look that great with just any) and the third is one coat of the 3D Fiber Lashes.  It sure makes them pop behind my glasses too, they're incredibly pretty, and if you ask me? Totally worth ordering.  Once I get better at the application, I'm sure my lashes will look even more incredible!  Just look at this:

Want to win some to try for yourself?
Lindsey is offering one lucky winner a set of 3D Fiber Lashes of their very own!
Giveaway is open to the following countries: USA, CA, UK, AU, & NZ.

My Favorite Beauty Products

I am by no-means a beauty pro.  However over the last year or so I've been lucky enough to (through trial and error) determine some of the products that work best for me.  I have unruly skin and unruly hair, so it's been difficult.  My favorite thing in the world, and recent obsession, has been Coconut oil.  I use this thing everywhere-I put in in my hair and on my skin before bed to moisturize both (and fall asleep smelling like an macaroon!) and I have used it so far on cuts and sunburns to help the healing!  Plus, eating it is very good for you-and the cheapest I've found so far is from Trader Joes.

With my skin, switching to Cetaphil (by the suggestion of Ricki-Jill) helped a lot with breakouts, and using CC creams and BB creams (read Beth's post identifying differences HERE) has taken some of the strain off too while hiding the redness and blemishes that bother me.  They're lighter and contain sunscreen, which has been a lifesaver!  I've just been using them with a little powder.  I've also been super into nudes/naturals for my eyes lately if you can tell-and that mascara?  It has a mirror on the back.  That is amazing.

My hair is very fine and semi-curly, which has resulted in somehow having both frizz and flat simultaneously.  The two Aveda products above help with the volume without weighing it down, and using the curl definers has eased the frizz a lot!   It's still messy, but hey-embrace messy hair!

Influenster UniVoxBox

Influenster UniVoxBox
I received the products in this review from Influenster.  All Opinions are 100% mine.

Pilot Acroball PureWhite: This pen was great!  I enjoy writing with it and it is handy for school! It writes smoothly and I didn't have to worry about shaking it to get the ink to come out or anything.

Playtex Sport Fresh Balance Tampons:  I haven't had the chance to use these yet, but they're in great packaging (discreet and doesn't make too much noise) and they look like they'll be perfect to use.

Red Rose Real Tea Premium Water Enhancers:  I haven't had a chance to try this one yet either, but I need to.  I LOVE tea and the concept in these is awesome!  I should bring it to work with me!

Broadway Nail Impress Press-on Manicure: I haven't tried these, but I don't do press-ons so I can't say I will.

Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Moose Foundation:  While the color seemed a bit light for me, the coverage was awesome and the matte helps keep the shine down throughout the whole day.

NYC New York Color Expert Last Lip Color: This was my favorite thing int he whole box.  Such a bright and cheery shade of pink and it really did last all day-even through eating and drinking!

Here I am at the first of the day, and then again about halfway through the day:

Life Lately

I just realized I haven't written a personal post in quite a while.  Phew, February has been so extremely busy!  Here's a little update on life lately! I'll break it down into some categories so I can play catch up.

Life Lately

Personal
Last weekend was full of fun!  On Saturday Ken & Kristina texted me to see if Josh and I wanted to go to the Natural History Museum with them to see the Chocolate Exhibit! It was a lot of fun to go through and wander around with them and the kids-and honestly, awesome just to get out of the house for a bit.

Then on Sunday night I went up to Ken & Kristina's to spend the night.  Kristina, Ashley, Courtney, and I crafted the evening away-they were headed to the Walk the Earth Concert the following week (tonight actually) so they wanted to make galaxy shirts.  So I joined in just for fun.  We also made some fun plates.

Galaxy ShirtDoctor Who Plates

Monday was spent shopping and playing with the baby-I love days off from work where I can go play!

Baby KatBaby Kat & Courtney

Also, I booked my plane tickets to go to Oregon for Spring Break!  I could not be more excited... I miss the ocean so much!  Oh and Mr. Bingo, I miss him too-so it'll be nice to go visit.

Online
Recently over at Chaotic Goddess Swaps we had our Books 'n' Bloggers Swap.  That one is always a favorite, and we were surprised to get nearly quadruple the amount of swappers we usually do!  So exciting!
Books 'n' Bloggers Swap

I was paired up with the awesome and ever-sweet Harlynn from Mind Your Madness!  That girl is crazy-cool and she sent me some awesome books as well as some handmade bookmarks (which my goddaughter Kailee promptly stole-and I had to fight her just to get the two I liked most back-so I don't have photos! lol).  She got me The Artist's Way (from my wishlist), Hush Hush (A book she hasn't read but sounds interesting), and Looking for Alaska (A book she loves-but is also on my wishlist yay!)

Also in case you didn't notice we just announced the Mug O'Comfort Swap with an awesome giveaway too! Sign-ups start Monday over at Chaotic Goddess Swaps.

Currently here on My So-Called Chaos we have a lot going on.  Voting for the final round of the Best of Blog Awards, a big 5 Year Blogiversary Giveaway, a $25 Sephora Gift Card Giveaway, the Musical Monday's Giveaway, and so much more coming up!  Stay tuned!

School
School might just be killing me... But I'm getting by.  I've decided I really don't care for my Hybrid English class... I would prefer it just be in class or just online-instead of having all of the homework for online class (like 5 papers a week) and still having to meet with the professor during the week.  Boo.

I was struggling with French this semester because she's going a lot faster than my last professor did, and then we go into passe compose and all of it's rules and gah.  I got a C on the first test.  A C.  I got pretty much all As last semester.  Such a let-down.  BUT my professor is awesome and lets you take it home and redo parts of it for half credit-so hopefully I bumped it up to a B! We had our second test last night and I think I did much better on it.  I'm also getting much better at understanding it and also being able to carry ona  conversation.  Josh and I try to tell each other about our days in french to help me learn.

Work
Work has been crazy busy.  We introduced a new tool-and as always there are a bunch of kinks to work out that result in a harder time for a while.  Also Shawn (who's the only other person managing the email queue with me) was out most of last week due to bronchitis so playing catch up has been fun.  Oh well.  I'm looking forward to Spring Break when I have a week off of both school and work and will be in Oregon by the beach.  LOVE!

On another work front, I'm working on some new ideas for my Etsy shop.  I hope to reopen some time in the next few months with a whole new product line.  Yay!

Health
Ugh.  I'm pretty sure I gained back everything I lost... My shirts don't fit as well, I feel more sluggish and sick than I have in the past... Mostly I've put a bunch of really crappy food in me.  But I'm getting back to my juicing & smoothies-just keep chugging along...

JuicingGreen Smoothie

Goodies
So I got my tax return back... Yeah it was pretty nice, who knew being a student earned you such a good rebate?  The smart thing to do would be to put it towards my student loans I'll eventually have to pay back... But am I going to do the smart thing?  Nah.  I paid off my credit cards, I booked my ticket for Oregon, and I'm going to finally by my DSLR!  Ok, so some of those can be construed as smart still... Like paying of the cards, booking a trip that will keep me from burning out or losing my mind, and also the camera can be used to further my online business!  Score!

But I've also done a hefty bit of shopping in the last little while...  I went shopping this past weekend and bought a new coffee table & 3 new pillows from IKEA, as well as some 600 thread count Egytion Cotton Sheets (HEAVEN!) and a new book.  I also picked up these awesome prints at the auction for CFPU a couple weekends ago.

Egyption Cotton Sheets & a Good BookArt

I also received these awesome goodies on trade!  Yes, I do some trade now!  Love it!  The eyeshadows are from Printcess and the gorgeous art & bookmarks are from Patric Bates.
