What is Musical Mondays?
Musical Mondays is a weekly linky party where we share a song we're into for the week, and talk about why we like it-or why it effects us. Anyone who links up a song and a post about that song is entered to win a big music giveaway at the end of 2012.
This week's song:
Dance Me to the End of Love
by The Civil Wars
Dance me to your beauty like a burnin' violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
And dance me to the end of love
Please dance me to the end of love
Oh let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Oh let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Ooh show me slowly what I only know the limits of
And dance me to the end of love
Please dance me to the end of love
La la la la la la lalala la la laa laaa laaa
Oh dance me to the wedding gown
Oh dance me on and on
And dance me very tenderly
Ooh and dance me very long
We're both of us beneath our love
And both of us above
Oh dance me to the end of love
Won't you dance me to the end of love?
La la la la la la lalala la la laa laaa laaa

I adore this song. I know it's a remake, in fact I have at least two versions of it on my iPhone (the other is the Madeline Peyroux version) but I am really enjoying this version. I've only recently been listening to The Civil Wars and I am in love with their sound. Kind of haunting and sweet, and the way they harmonize sends shivers down your spine. It's lovely.
Joy Williams and John Paul White are quite wonderful together, even watching them sing this song live, so I thought maybe they were a couple-but sadly they're not. They address it on their website where White basically says they are flattered that people think they're in a relationship because they don't want people to think they're up there "acting and feigning the emotions" they write and sing about and show on stage, but that if they were in a relationship it would be entirely different. He doesn't think any healthy relationship could withstand singing "I don't love you" (another song) to each other on stage every night. They're brilliant.
This song is incredibly sweet too. I want to be danced to the end of love, and since there is no end to love-let's keep dancing forever... Oh I am such a hopeless romantic sometimes.

So, I had never heard this song before, BUT my favorite painting by Jack Vettriano is titled "Dance me to the End of Love" It was painted in 1998. Since Vettriano was born in 71 and this song was written in 84 I'm willing to bet this was the origin of the title and I know look at my favorite painting in a completely new way.
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
As I am a hopeless romantic, I really liked this song! Thanks for sharing it!
