Friday Favorites, Finds, & Funnies

Favorite finds and funnies from around the internet for the week of 3/13/15. Geek Out, Be Inspired, Take a Chance, Have a Laugh, & More!

Hello lovely readers, it's time for Friday!  Are you excited?  I mean I hate the idea of living for the weekend-but I'm living for the weekend-if you know what I mean.  Seriously, I love Friday.  So before I leave my computer for the weekend (though not the blog, make sure you stop by tomorrow for my first Saturday Spotlight feature!) I wanted to share some awesome things that I've found and loved over the last week.  Also the things I think you should be aware of!

Enter to win the Center Lovell Inn and Restaurant with your Essay!

There is currently an essay contest to win the Center Lovell Inn and Restaurant in Maine.  This will be the second time the inn has been won in an essay competition, the first time was back in 1993 when Janice Sage's essay won the inn, and she's been running it ever since.  Now, Janice has decided to retire so she's giving another lucky writer the chance to win and run the inn with their 200 word essay explaining why they should.

Isn't the whole idea kind of romantic?  You write this essay with a dream of packing up everything and moving to the beautiful northeast to run a sweet little homey inn.  You spend your days drinking coffee and talking to people from all over the world... Dreamy.  However, I confess, now that this whole idea has gone viral (the wide-spread use of the internet has made this world a much different place than it was in 1993), the idea of spending $125 to submit an essay that will be competing against tens of thousands (or maybe hundreds of thousands) of other dreamers, kind of wakes you up.  It might just be an expensive lottery ticket...

Still... The dream is there.  For more information on the contest visit: Win the Central Lovell Inn

I first heard of his contest via Hello Giggles, and I snagged this photo from Maine Eater's article.

Body shaming is horrible, but a group of awesome girls made it a little better for this guy by throwing him a party!

I stumbled upon this Uproxx story via a Facebook share and it totally tugged at my heartstrings.  The story is all about how some people took pictures of this guy dancing and totally body shamed him over it.  It's heartbreaking to see his face in the second picture after he found them mocking him and was disheartened.

BUT, as a reminder, there really are some great people out there mixed in along with the mean ones.  A group of girls (which quickly snowballed into about 1,700+ of them) banded together to throw the man a party where he could come dance with a bunch of pretty ladies and not be judged at all.  They were able to find him, and the happiness on his face breaks your heart in a totally good way!  Make sure to read the story.

A study out of England shows the difference between what Men and Women think the perfect man looks like.

Along those same lines, here's more proof that body image is not a strictly feminine thing.  We seem to hear about it more from the female side of things, but guys feel the urge to have perfect bodies too.  A study put together by the British clothing company Jacamo asked both men and women to describe their ideal man.  The men's result was on the left here and the women's on the right.

Sign the petition to tell Bayer and Co to stop trying to bring back bee-killing pesticides in the EU.

Bayer and Co., who Anna from Anna in Wonderland also informed me (she's very well studied on the Holocaust) was one of the companies with stake in the experiments Auschwitz (you know, the horrible concentration camp run by the Nazis in World War II), is trying to sue the EU to bring back their pesticides that kill bees.  Remember how if all the bees die we pretty much die too?

Yeah, sign the petition to tell Bayer and Co. a big fat NOPE.

L'appel du vide: An impulse to jump when standing on a high ledge-and other cool French words that English seriously lacks!

I found this nifty list of Cool French Words English Seriously Lacks.  There are some great ones you should know!

10 Things You Need to Know About Dating the Outgoing Introvert

Also, I loved this article by Anna Bashkova on Puckermob called 10 Things You Need to Know About Dating the Outgoing Introvert.  I loved it because I think the term "outgoing introvert" is exactly how I would sum myself up.  According to my INFP personsonality in the Meyer's Briggs test I'm borderline (only off by 1%) introvert/extrovert-but I feel so introverted.  This article seriously sums up my dating views, and I should just start sending it to everyone I start dating so they're prepared.

Con Man-the new IndieGoGo web series campaign from Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk!

For all you Firefly fans out there (Browncoats unite!) have you seen Nathan Fillion & Allen Tudyk's new IndieGoGo campaign for their web series ConMan?  It will no-doubt be hilarious since the two of them are involved, I mean we all love Nathan, and I met Alan Tudyk at ComicCon last year briefly and he is such a nice guy-and they're both funny.  Geek power is strong, they're already more than funded and well into their stretch goals.  So if you are interested-get in on it now. :)

Batman Stamps are now available at your local PO!

I found these awesome Batman stamps at the Post Office last weekend.  Aren't they amazing? The round ones are stamps too!

Game of Thrones and T-Swift fans will quite enjoy this hilarious Game of Thrones Blank Space video from The Nerdist.  I laughed so hard.

Also, CollegeHumor has helped Game of Thrones fans keep track of the characters HERE. It's quite funny.

While we're watching videos, make sure to watch this clever Princess Rap Battle with Sara Michelle Gellar playing Cinderella and Whitney Avalon (the Princess Rap Battle creator) playing Belle.  Hilarious.

What are you up to this weekend?

That's right, tomorrow is the official first day of Summer.  Or, if you're more magically inclined, it's Litha/Summer Solstice/Midsummer.  This is one of the best times of year either way... It's warming up, people are getting outside, and it feels like the world is really coming alive at night!  I've found you a lovely collection of handmade things that make me think of Midsummer-enjoy!

See the full treasury HERE. Items not shown in the image above, but worth mentioning:

Have any fun Midsummer plans this weekend?
