The top 10 reasons why I drink Coffee:
1. Studies have shown that people who drink coffee are less likely to ever get diabetes (unless you put a ton of sugar in it), Parkinson's Disease, and Dementia. So the more coffee I drink, the more likely I am to keep my wits in my old age.
2. Studies have shown that coffee drinkers are less likely to get certain types of cancers, heart rhythm problems, or strokes. So drinking coffee is ACTUALLY good for my heart. (I've always said it's good for my emotional heart!)
3. There is nothing better than a hot cup of coffee on a chilly day. I love to feel the warmth of it against my cold hands.
4. Coffee is great for dipping things in. In France, they will put their coffee in a bowl and dip their hard breads and pastries in the coffee before eating it. My roommate lived in France for a while, and introduced me to this concept one weekend for breakfast. It's amazing.
5. You can have it virtually any way you want it. Hot, cold, over ice, easy ice, blended, with cream, black, sugar, syrup, any flavor you can think of (or combination thereof), as an espresso shot, in a latte, brewed, half and half, fat free milk, with spices, in a mug, in a paper cup, in a thermos, in a bowl, decaff, one shot or four, you name it.
6. Caffeine. Coffee can keep you running after spending all night studying for that test, or when you're at work the next day after partying a little too late the night before.
7. Coffee is perfect for being social. You can break the ice on a first date by going for coffee, extend a second one by doing coffee after the activity, meet an old friend to chat and have coffee, or even go in and make a new friend with one of the other lonely strangers in a the coffee house. It's kind of beautiful how it brings people together.
8. It's a great pick-me-up. Stop and grab an extra cup to bring to a friend, just to show them you were thinking of them, and it will really brighten their day. This is especially the case if they are feeling low. I was really sad the other day, and my friend David went out of his way to grab me a Pumpkin Spice Latte and bring it to me at work-it really did turn things around.
9. Possibly the best reason I can think of to keep drinking it - It makes me insanely happy. I go get myself a cup of coffee just because I'm feeling low, or because I want a little extra happy in my day. It never fails to put a smile on my face and help me forget about problems for a few blissful moments while I sip on it's rich goodness.
AND 10. Because I really wouldn't want to live in a world where Coffee didn't exist... I love it that much.

Oh, me too! I was just telling my roommate last night that when I lived in San Diego, coffee was coffee. Since moving to Seattle (and having AMAZING coffee and lattes here), it's become a comfort food. Plus, it's virtually zero calories if you drink it black and it speeds up your metabolism a teensy bit. Yay! :D
ReplyDeleteI gotta send you a care package of coffee once I'm employed again- I had no idea you like it so much! What kind of beans do you prefer? (African, South American, bright and acidic, dark and earthy, etc)?
Oh I love those cartoons!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't drink coffee but I love the smell of it brewing - love it. Reminds me of growing up with my Mom brewing her coffee as she got ready to go to work every am... good times.

You know Beth, I'm not honestly sure I know which I prefer... I tend to like pretty strong coffee, but not quite as strong as a french roast... Even though I can enjoy that once in a while..
ReplyDeleteMmmm, coffee care packages... I might be in love with you if you send me one. :P I have to send you something this year too, we'll have to swap addresses on FB. :) I don't think I have your new one!
Great list! Love #10. Thanks for coming by my blog today!

ReplyDeleteI love my coffee even more now--great list!! And thanks for stopping by my blog:)
ReplyDeleteGreat post! And I agree with every. single. point! Coffee makes me insanely happy, too. My husband says it's just the caffeine that does that, but I disagree. It's the whole package: the smell, the taste, the social aspect, the warming aspect, and last but not least, yes! the caffeine boost!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love the images you used in this post. Yes, I love coffee so much that even pictures of it make me insanely happy!
