Valentines Day Sugar Cookies (Super Yum)

I found this recipe via Blue Cricket Design and had to try it, as I'd never made sugar cookies with Sour Cream in them  before.  I have to say, they were SUPER YUM, and if you like to bake (or maybe even just like to eat cookies) you should try it!

Read her original post on the recipe here.

You will need:

  • 5 Cups Flour
  • 1½ Cups Sugar
  • 1 Cup Melted Butter
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Cup Sour Cream
  • ½ Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

*Note, I recently learned that if you end up using Self Rising Flour, you should not add the baking powder or salt, as those come premixed.  You will need them if you use regular baking flour.

Combine Flour, Salt, Baking Powder, and Baking Soda in a bowl.

In a separate bowl, blend together the Sugar, Butter, Vanilla, Eggs, and Sour Cream until smooth.  Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and then mix together until you have a well blended dough ball.

Wrap the ball in plastic wrap and place in the fridge for 2 or 3 hours or until firm. (I only left it about an hour and a half or so.  What can I say-I'm impatient!)

When making your shapes, make sure to roll out the dough pretty thick, about a half inch or so.

Bake at 375° for about 10 minutes (adjust time as needs be.)  You want the cookies to be about the same color as the uncooked dough.

After the cookies melt, heat can of pink frosting into a bowl, dip the cookies into the melted frosting and let them drizzle off.  Add sprinkles or other pretty things to the top, and serve!

It made about 16 Large cookies the first time I made this recipe, and 46 small ones when I made it again last night.  The best part?  As long as you keep them wrapped, they stay nice and moist!  They were delicious!

Dear So & So: I May Be Fat But You Have A Small Penis

Dear Roommate,

I cannot even begin to express how happy I am for you!  It's about time the world threw something this good in your direction, and it's about time that someone was on the same page as you.  He seems pretty cool, and even with his shortcomings, I have a feeling this is going to be a very good thing!  Don't stress, ride the wave and enjoy yourself!

I will love you forever,

***

Dear Jack-hole on POF,

This is a dating site, so the fact that you had to go OUT OF YOUR WAY to email me and say "ur fat" just shows us all how pathetic you really are.  I thought about writing back, but then I realized I really didn't want to feed into your immaturity (I mean really, are you stuck in Jr. High still?)

You know what?  I may be fat, but I can lose weight.  However, it's going to take some extensive and costly surgery to help you gain that one inch you need to finally be packing 2 inches down there.

Have a nice day!  :)

Dear Work,

When I walked in and found two monitors on my desk and connected-I was shocked but happy.  It's like Christmas today.  Watch my productivity go UP!

A grateful employee.

Dear Readers,

These Scars Remind Me My Past Is Real

Most girls don't like these perminent little marks on their bodies.  They buy creams, they have surgery, anything to remove the remains of previous wounds.

I'm not most girls; I love my scars.

When I lay in the bathtub and look at my body, I see many markings of what has been, and each one tells a story about me.  I love tracing them with my fingers and remembering what it was in life that left that long pinkish-white mark behind as a souvenier.  It is my belief that the reason some scars never fade is because we were meant to always remember the lesson we learned from it, or those feelings we felt when it happened.

There are multiple scars along the knuckles of both my hands, and I wear them proudly as I remember the teenage angst that led me to the rough fabric wrapped around a punching bag at my parents house.  Most say it wasn't smart to not wear gloves, but besides the obvious impact of releasing my frustration on that heavy bag, in that moment the pain brought me clarity.  Call me a massochist, but as my skin tore against the canvas, the negativity was bled out of me and I felt better.

My upper-right leg has streaks of scars running down it, when I look at them I remember the trip to Lake Powell last summer and how much fun I had.  The pain from falling on the boat and seriously injuring my leg is nothing but a blip in a very pleasant memory.

My thumb has a scar I earned as a small child when I fell in my great grandmother's basement and caught myself on a wall which had chicken wire on it.  It was nothing, but those grandparents are gone now, and the thin white scar reminds me of them when I look at it.

Even the most recent one I gained on my knee has a purpose, even if the only thing I learned from it was to make sure I close my dresser drawers at night!

I love my scars, and I think they're beautiful and full of life.

However... Emotional scars are different story for a different day.

This glimpse into my inner psyche, brought to you by Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop.  Head on over and see what everyone else has to say...
